Best 7 Wrestling Themes (that told the story)

Real American FTW! Now it might come as a shock to some, but I am a huge wrestling fan. Always have been, and probably always will be. With that out of the way, I am also a big fan of some of the older wrestler themes we all sorta grew up with that really told the story or told you everything you needed to know about a wrestler’s persona or gimmick right in the theme. Now, don’t get me wrong – there are many great themes out there, but not many these days really tell you what the wrestler coming out to the ring is all about, or really set the stage for what you can expect.

So, with that said – I thought I would share with you the top seven pro wrestling themes that do tell you everything you need to know about a guy.

Phreeze takes on Gweedo – EAW TV

Alright, I promised it – and now I am here to deliver, the first of hopefully many matches from the Extreme Amateur Wrestling archives. This first match pits our resident “jobber” Gweedo against the coldest heart in the EAW, Phreeze. It is also for the EAW’s Hardcore Championship.

Behind the camera doing play by play is yours truly – playing my role as the “voice of the EAW”. To give you a little ‘bit of a back-story, this match actually took place a few years after we had all “retired” as an effort to do one last show.

Enjoy, and remember – don’t take it too seriously.

EAW TV is a weekly look back at the backyard wrestling my friends and I partook in, in the late 90’s to early 2000’s. Not out there to impress, but rather to entertain, watch the Extreme Amateur Wrestling crew take each other on, one more time.

Introducing Extreme Amateur Wrestling

My name is Mitch and I was a backyard wrestler.

Back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, professional wrestling was at a high point. You had the NWO, Austin 3:16, and if you didn’t tune in Monday night, you just didn’t know what was going on in the world. So my friend and I did what others were doing – doing all that stuff they told you, “Not to try at home”.

However, what separated us from the rest, was we just had fun with it. We never bashed each other over the head with light bulbs or did anything ~~stupid~~ that would seriously injure somebody. That was only part of it though.

Having decide to take down the ring – I thought it might fun to share with the world what EAW used to be about. Rather than tell you, which I’d be blue in the face by the time I finished, I thought I would let you watch what was going on 10 years ago.

As soon as I start converting them over, the EAW library of content will be shared right here. I hate to sound clique, but stay tuned. It is devastating.

I just wanted to take a minute to wish you all a happy and safe 4th of July. I know Independence Day (the holiday, not the movie) is not till tomorrow – but how can you not start the celebration today with a little Hulk Hogan, apple pie, and “Real American” music?

WWE 24/7 Online – Bigger Video

When WWE launched their video on demand service (WWE 24/7 Online) via the Web I was pretty excited. Hey, I’m a huge wrestling fan and I like watching old classic matches. Unfortunately though they lost my attention due to my lack of free time and the little tiny videos they offered to stream over the Internet.

Well looks like they have started to listen to some feedback – because they are now offering 750K streams of all the content they have uploaded. Thanks to this, I might have to renew my yearly subscription because the video quality with the bigger stream is much better in my opinion.

Wrestlemania 23 Predictions

Since Wrestlemania 23 is only a few hours away, I figured now would be a good time to make my predictions to see how many I can get right.

World Heavyweight Championship – Undertaker vs Batista
Winner? Undertaker!

WWE Championship – John Cena vs Shawn Micheals
Winner? Probably damn John Cena – blah!

Battle of the Billionaires
Bobby Lashley (w/Donald Trump) vs Umaga (w/Vince McMahon)
Winner? Bobby Lashley, then Vince will end up being bald. Don’t see Donald Trump getting rid of his aweful hair-do anytime soon. Plus they can play off Vince being bald for a long longer than they could Trump.

Money in the Bank Ladder Match
Winner? Edge will win, I think. Yes, there are 7 other guys to choose from, but doubt anybody else takes the briefcase this year.

ECW Originals vs ECW New Breed
Winner? Hmm.. not sure, I could see it going either way. I’ll vote for the ECW Originals though just to be a fan boy.

Women’s Championship Match – Melina vs Ashley
Winner? Melina will win, and somebody will probably get stripped to their unmentionables.

Kane vs The Great Khali
Winner? Kane will Win, because The Great Khali is about as entertaining as watching me trim my toe nails. Well, I guess depending on your own fetishes that might excite some more than others.

United States Championship – Chris Benoit vs MVP
Winner? Chris Benoit, easy win. They just had to stick him in somewhere – and MVP makes a good whipping boy.

Pro Wrestling Superstar’s Online Home

I have to say that I am pretty proud of myself when it comes to my work that I have done with my buddy’s Web site, SB1Online.com. I guess you could say this is the first time I have run a Web site for somebody else as webmaster/client relationship.

SB-1 and myself have been friends for a long time – so it is something I am happy to work on and contribute to. It is a nice thing to work on when I need a break from all the tech stuff that I usually find myself writing about.

I like to think of it as my way to live out my own old childhood dream of doing the same. Before becoming the Web hosting industry’s media rock star – I might have taken the same path as SB-1. It is all in how the cards of life are dealt though and hey, who says I can’t still wear spandex regardless?

There are plenty of pictures, videos and details there to keep you busy for a few hours at least. Take a look around, subscribe to the updates and keep an eye on my favorite indy pro wrestling superstar.

Congrats to SB-1 and Monica

Sean and Monica I just got the phone call not too long ago and Sean (also known as the indy wrestling sensation, SB-1) told me his proposal to another good friend of mine Monica went off without a hitch.

After the match, he called her into the ring and then got down on one knee and asked her if she would marry him. It is one of those moments that I wish I was there for, but thankfully it will be out on DVD pretty soon. I guess that would be one of the perks of proposing to your girl friend via a live wrestling event.

I am sure SB-1 Online will have full updates through the week of all that went on last night. Both Sean and Monica are two of my best friends, so I have nothing but the best to wish them. You couldn’t find two nicer people and two people more meant for each other.
