Virtual Desktop Apps Don’t Work

Virtual DesktopsThe last few days I have been trying to try a few more productivity and desktop applications to help me get a little more work done. One thing that I have seen for ages but never really gave a fair shot to was running multiple desktops on one machine. So I tried out a handful of programs – and I have to say it just did not do the job for me.

Now I like to keep the minimum needed open when working on anything. I really don’t like clutter – but after downloading a few of these multiple desktop programs I found it more of a chore than anything to switch back and forth for different projects or jobs I was doing.

Just in case you want to give it a shot yourself, here are a few you can try:

Virtual desktops are a good idea but for some reason nobody seems to have made it work just right – just yet.

Interview With Press Release Guru

Hosting RadioLast week on the Web Hosting Show I got the chance to have a sit down chat and conversation with one of the biggest press release writing firms out there today.

Talking with Dan from Press Advance was a very enlightening experience to say the least. I never realized how much work they really did for folks really. You could count me in the group of folks who said, “How hard is it to write a press release?”.

After this interview though I have to say I have a new found respect for the process and the work around it as well. That’s not all we covered though, here are some other topics talked about on this week’s podcast:

  • Some Hosting News and Gossip
  • Interview with Dan Garon from Press Advance
  • A Little ‘Bit of News on Intenet 2
  • Even Hosts Are Getting into iPhone Hype
  • Calling Out the Podcast’s Haters

Haven’t tuned in yet? What are you waiting for? I can promise you you’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you might even learn a thing or two along the way.

Guest Blogging for Lunarpages

Well Amy told me I was free to post whenever I wanted or needed to, so I figure I would take her up on the offer. Go check out what I had to say about my first three weeks working for Lunarpages.com. I really like that Lunarpages is one of the few Web hosts who do blog. That was a major factor into me wanting to go there. They don’t seem so closed off to the idea of bringing in new ways to get in touch with the customer base.

Time Management With To Do Lists

crazy-mitch-small.jpgSince I started my new job, I have been trying to manage my time better. I have a bad habit of putting things off till the last minute, and then spending an entire day working on things that I could have spread out a little better. So what was the solution to my time management issues?

Well so far, making lists of things for me to do has been working. I have a daily to do list with all the things I need to do every single day. For other tasks that I do day by day, I have a daily to do list for each day of the week.

So I might have five things I need to do every single day that is on my daily to do list, and everything else gets spread out on smaller to do lists for the days of the week.

So far it has been working out. The only hard part about it all is making myself stick with it, so I don’t have a boatload of work left for me at the end of the week.
