Best of the Wii Zapper Ready Games

Over the past few days I have been playing a lot of the Wii’s Zapper games.  The light gun attachment for the Wii is a lot of fun to use, and I wanted to make sure I got my money’s worth on the deal.  Here are some of the best Wii Zapper compatible games I have bought thus far:

Link’s Crossbow Training

254px-Link's_Crossbow_TrainingYes!  Finally Link gets his name in one of the Zelda games!  Ok, this one I didn’t have much choice about due to the fact it came with the Zapper itself but I do have to say it is much more fun than I thought it would be.  Having the anticipation that it would just be a demo title showing me "how to use" the Zapper it ended up being an entertaining "pick it up when you have nothing else to do" game.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

51kHlaUfzoL._SL110_I have been a fan of the Resident Evil series, even though this is my first actual game in the series to own.  This game’s controls kind of makes you feel like the Zapper was a second thought (due to the fact you have to move your hand up on top to hit the "A" button a lot.  Other than that it is another cool "on rails" shoot’em up that ends up being very entertaining.

Go through some of the historic places from past Resident Evil games and shoot a lot.  That is this game in a nutshell.

Ghost Squad

gs Now I am not usually a big fan of the Army/Police first person shooter type games but for some reason this one looked as if it might be a lot of fun.  I have not gotten to spend much time with it yet but from what I have played it looks great.  There are also a lot of side routes you can take so one level never has to be the same twice.  Another great thing about it is you change your weapon type up as you go to suit the situation.  Tons of fun.

The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return

51h-OnCxK-L._SL110_This title, as the name tells you right off the bat, gives you both House of the Dead 2 and 3 to play with your Zapper.

The voice acting in this game is so bad, it’s good.  I’m a big fan of your campy horror movies though.  I missed out both of these days the first time around but now I get to finally see what all the buzz was about.  You would be amazed how gratifying blowing the head off a zombie really is.

Any More Games for the Wii Zapper?

From what I have seen, only other one I’m missing is some army/war game (Metal of Honor?) but that really isn’t my cup of tea.  Know anymore Zapper ready games I should pick up for Wii?

Mitch’s WiiWare and Virtual Console Collection (thus far)

I still have a little more room on my Wii for games, but I am coming close to having to ditch some previously downloaded titles for some new ones.  Give me a couple more months, then I’ll join the chorus of people asking more disk space on the Wii (either via the SD card or by adding an external hard drive).

Here is my WiiWare and Virtual Console Collection so far…

  • Super Mario 64 - Childhood memory, spend many an hour on this game.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog - Never had a Sega, so thought I’d give it a shot.
  • Sim City - Seems to be slower than I remembered.
  • Contra III: The Alien Wars - Awesome fun, but really hard without a friend.
  • Super Castlevania IV - One of the best Castlevania games to this day.
  • Super Mario Bros. - Who doesn’t have this one downloaded?
  • Internet Browser - Handy to check Gmail and Google Reader on.
  • Mario Kart 64 - Fun, might might not make the cut if I need the room.
  • Kid Icarus - Another (never played it the first time) game but happy I have it now.
  • Everybody Votes Channel - Removed it since I only checked it out once or twice.
  • Splatterhouse - Gory fun, but still lacks something…
  • Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream - Fun boxing fun, where did Mike Tyson go?
  • Castlevania - Maybe it’s just me, but this is really hard!
  • Super Metroid - Could play this one forever, over and over again.
  • Super Mario Bros. 3 - Best multi-player Mario game to date.
  • Check Mii Out Channel - Removed it too, due to never using it for anything.
  • River City Ransom - Reminds me of a bad 80’s movie in a good way.
  • Defend your Castle - Well worth the $5 spent on it, and highly addictive.
  • Dr. Mario Online Rx - I needed a puzzle game, and Dr. Mario delivers flawlessly.

Anything else I should check out?

Need a Better Game Review?

Video Game Reviews From time to time, I’ll go to the video game review sites like Gamespot and others to see what is new in the world of video games.  Unlike the other areas of tech I seem to be involved in, video games are purely for pleasure and nothing else.

The problem comes in when you want to just get some reviews.  You have to battle through popup ads, pretty graphics and ten page articles.  If you don’t have much time, and you just want to know how good a game it try No Fuss Reviews.

This site will deliver you what you want, need and love most about video game review sites the easy to read thumbs up or thumbs down.  Type in any game title and then the console that it is on and you can get a simple one through ten review of the game.

Another neat feature is, let’s say you don’t know what the title is exactly but you know it is for the Wii and it has "Mario" in the title.  just type in Mario, select Wii on the side and it will give you all the Wii games with Mario in the title.

Video Game Desktop Wallpaper

I love video games images, I think the old NES and SNES days deliver a lost art that you just don’t see with today’s video games. Plus I guess there is some nostalgia wrapped up in my feelings about it too.

If you want to cover you computer’s desktop with some video game levels - time to visit desktopgaming.com.

Video Game Wallpaper

They have content from just about every old video game system you can think of and honestly I could spend hours just browsing through the images. Right now I am using the World of Ruin map from Final Fantasy 6 but later I know I must at least try to have the 1st level from Super Mario Bros.

I just wish somebody had a better world map (I want the whole thing) from the Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past. Want to make your own? They have a tutorial that will teach you the ways.

Many props go out to Todd for finding this jewel.

Video Game Classics in the Closet

It is amazing the things you find when you start re-organizing where everything is. I was going to move a few things out of my office space here and into the closet and I found a treasure of classic video game systems.

Nintendo DS vs Sony PSP?

I finally got my new toy in the mail yesterday. What is that toy? A Nintendo DS Lite! Now that I own a Nintendo DS Lite and a PlayStation Portable I think I am pretty ready to do a side by side comparison.

Good Things About Nintendo DS Lite

1. Original and Different Way of Playing Games.
2. Bright Screen - I Would Say Even Brighter Than the PSP.
3. All Your Favorite Old School Titles Will Be or Are There.

Good Things About the PlayStation Portable

1. It Can Act as a Portable Media Machine as Well with Photos, Music and Videos.
2. More Functionality With Homebrew and Custom Firmwares.
3. A Different Game Libary - Good Games There Too.

Which is better? As you can see both have their good points, so I would have to say it has to do with what you want from your portable gaming experience. If you want fun and different I would pick a Nintendo DS Lite. If you want a media manager and good looking games - go with the PlayStation Portable.
