To get started, just point your browser towards letsname.com. Then, hit the button labeled "Generate Names". You will be asked to wait a few seconds as it tries to come up with some good suggestions. One of the suggestions I got was for jeakers. Let’s name told me right from the results page that this domain is available as a .net right now. It also lets you know if the name is taken on Twitter or not too.

With the exception of the hosting and domain name affiliate links – can’t blame them for trying to make money though – I think this is a neat service to check out. Find your own unique name at letsname.com.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!
You can think of this as a sort of WordPress meets Twitter. Now, what you do with this new tool once you get it is totally up to your own originality.

Here are just a few suggestions the developers give when it comes to figuring out reasons to use this fantastic little micro blogging service.

Journal. Realistically keep a journal, 280 characters only takes 2 minutes!

Travelling. You’re too busy having fun to write down every detail!

Business. Keep track of your business life.

Sport. Running a marathon? Track your progress.

Food Diary. Losing weight or getting fit?

Target Progress. Record progress of a large task.

Backwards To-Do List. What did you get done today?

By bounding you to 280 characters, the website forces you to skip the fluff and get right down to business. You can sign up and give it a shot at 280daily.com.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

When people ask me for my favorite way to add all those sharing buttons on a website, my answer is almost always AddThis. They provide the most tools in the best looking way – and isn’t that what most webmasters are looking for these days? If you need a way to add and track your social sharing buttons – AddThis is definitely the best route to take.

Just a few short years ago, I would tell you just to copy and paste the code for the button to your website. Plain and simple, right? Well, thanks to the fact that AddThis adds a lot of customization to how you can add these sharing buttons to your website – the best thing I can do for you is point you towards their button generator.

From there, you select where you want to put your buttons (your website, Blogger, Tumblr, WordPress and more). Next, you select the style of buttons you wish to use. Last, you decide if you want to enable clickback analytics, so that you can get statistics on how people are sharing your content. Once you are happy with how things look, hit the "Get the Code" button. The rest of the process is pretty straight forward.

I have tried just about every social sharing button website out there, and nobody beats AddThis when it comes to making the process nice and simple. They are the best place to grab your "Share on Twitter" or "Like on Facebook" style buttons – hands down.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!
Absolutely! Here’s why.

Having an active presence in Facebook and Twitter will give you instant access to your current audience and customers, and the potential for many more is huge. When someone becomes a Facebook Fan or Twitter Follower of your brand, it will be knowledge which is obtainable for all the friends and followers of that individual. This gives you the opportunity to establish further name recognition. So instantly your company or blog name is in front of many more people than just your current audience. Chances are some of those people will become Fans and Followers too. The number of people can snowball quickly. If you are able to drive a portion of these new found Fans and Followers to your site, you’ll get a boost in traffic and have the opportunity to convert these Fans and Followers into your regular audience.

If you are seeking ways to increase your social marketing audience, here are three ideas worth exploring.

1. Entice followers with coupons. Let your potential customer base know that you’ll offer special coupons only available to social network followers. These coupons can be announced with tweets and status updates. Many retailers have had success with reaching their online customer base by offering percentage off discounts in this manner.

2. Give things away. Who doesn’t like free stuff? There is one success story where a franchise dangled $15 gifts out to the first 100,000 individuals who became a Facebook Fan. The strategy worked like a charm. In less than four days the 100,000 Fan mark was achieved. Analytic tracking indicated that many of those new Fans went on to make purchases in subsequent months. The franchise now had 100,000 new eyeballs to read regular status updates and target for future purchases.

3. Don’t be afraid to just ask for followers. Placing the recognizable Facebook and Twitter Icons on your website will let your current audience know that you are engaged in the social marketing world. They are already at your site, chances are they’d like to be up to date on what you are doing and offering. The icons offer easy access, in just a few clicks they can begin following you, and you’ll be thee beneficiary.

Leslie Handmaker has a site specializing in gifts for friends and celebrating friendships. She also offers marketing support and project management to small businesses on a contract basis.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Tired of trying to find a place to put your Facebook, Twitter and other social sharing icons on your website? VirtualWeb has put out a new toolbar for you to try. The InsiteBar adds a utility bar to any type of website. All you need to do is copy and paste their code into your own HTML. Once you have done so, your website visitors will be able to see a toolbar across the top of your website layout that gives them a lot of handy tools and resources.

These types of utility toolbars or "sharebars" as some people call them are not really new. The most popular one is put out by the people at Wibiya. The Insitebar helps website owners enrich their website with over 1,000 different social applications that they can choose from the Insitebar marketplace. From games, to Twitter and even Facebook too – they have a lot of things covered.

Here are a few of the Insitebar features:

Engage your website’s users with rich and interactive Apps

Add your own applications or use any of the 1,000+ Apps available

No coding required – Extremely Fast & Reliable

Runs on any Mobile Devices including iPad, iPhone and Android

Takes minutes to put, takes seconds to appreciate

The only problem I can find with Insitebar and a lot of these services is I don’t want their logo on my website. They all do this, and as a website owner I would rather not have it. I do understand the need to advertise, but there has to be a more hidden way to do so if you really want people to use your tools.

Check it out at Insitebar.com.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Did you share something on your Twitter page about a month ago and now can not seem to remember the URL? Facebook, Twitter and the like do not make it very easy to go through the archives to dig up old content. Thankfully, Trunk.ly is here to archive things for you. This awesome website will automatically collect links you share on Facebook, Twitter and Delicious and make them searchable for you.

This is really helpful for Delicious users out there who have just recently found out that Yahoo is looking to shut down that service. Trunk.ly makes it really easy to import those links, back them up and make them searchable. I am really excited to see how much of a fan base grows around this new service and what other import features they might bring in the future.

It never hurts to have a backup of your socially shared links and Trunk.ly makes doing so really easy. You can also follow or share your collected links with other too. You can check out my Trunk.ly profile and see how easy it is to get started with the service.

Want to develop a website that is more about the comments than it is about the stories? With WordPress and the P2 theme you can do that. This innovative theme for WordPress gives you inline comments on the homepage, a posting form right on the main index, inline editing of posts and more.

What is Unique About This WordPress Theme?

If you want to start up a blog that is based around conversations rather than articles, P2 is definitely the tool you need to try out. It brings the real time communication you might see on a Twitter or Facebook and brings it to your self-hosted WordPress installation. Once you are logged in, you should see the posting box at the top of the page you have P2 installed on. Simple write your post and open it up to the conversation. Any registered users can then comment and share their thoughts on your post’s topic too.

Here is a quick video tour of P2:

Want to download P2 and play with it yourself? Just head over to p2theme.com to get started. I think this is a really interesting and unique way to look at your standard WordPress powered website and can not wait to see how many users find a creative topic to base around this unique use of WordPress.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Would you like to get Facebook and Twitter messages in a much more familiar format? Paper.li will let you read your favorite Twitter tweets and Facebook messages like a daily newspaper. It totally organizes all the incoming messages (from people you select) into a format that is much easier to read for some.

Once you log into the website with either your Facebook or Twitter login information – you can decide how you want to create your newspaper. For example, when I logged into the service with Twitter I had the options to create a newspaper based on a Twitter user, a Twitter tag or a Twitter list.

Another great feature of Paper.li is the ability to share your newspaper with others. You can discover many great sources of news right from the Paper.li front page that will give you interesting links and stories from sources you may have never even known about.

Want to see an example? Here is the newspaper I made from my list of web hosting related Twitter accounts I had listed on Twitter.

The Webhosts Daily

I really like Paper.li as a resource for information and for organizing information in a much more readable way. You can go check it out for yourself over at Paper.li.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Google Buzz, thus far, has been another example of them not exactly having Midas’s golden touch when it comes to new ideas (the other modern one being Google Wave). However, to make sure you have your bases covered – it might not be a bad idea to start syndicating your content through this wacky service to make sure those who want to follow you using Google Buzz can.

Have I gone too far forward? First let me touch base on what Google Buzz actually is. Google Buzz is Google’s way for you to share updates, photos, videos and more. Think of it as their version of Twitter, with a little more functionality – and built right into your Gmail account.

Is Google Buzz Worth the Trouble?

To get started with it – you simply visit the Google Buzz website, and click the, “Try Google Buzz in Gmail” button. That should bring up the new Google Buzz feature in your Gmail sidebar menu. I simply have it setup to syndicate whatever it can find from my Twitter account, by “connecting” it to Twitter. You can also post to it directly, or link other websites or services to it.

The idea is cool, it is just not really reinventing the wheel so much that everybody wants to use it. There is one redeeming fact about Google Buzz thus far though. Once setup – it will bring a little more usefulness to your Google Profile.

What About the Google Buzz Sharing Widget?

Oh yes, nearly forgot about this one. Google Buzz also brings us all one more button to use on our websites so that Google Buzz users can share your content with others on their own Google Buzz accounts. You can find out how to set up these buttons from Google’s website.

So – should you go through the trouble of setting up a Google Buzz account? If you are already using Gmail, you might give it a shot – but for me, the only really good thing about it I have seen is it gives you one more place to get your links out about yourself and add some social fluff to your Google Profile, which I do recommend setting up.
