Waiting on My First HDTV!

new-tv

My new TV for the Mitchelaneous office of mass mitchlicious things should be here a little later today, did I do a good job?  This is the first HDTV I’ve purchased, and well - I at least think I picked a winner.  It is the Samsung 720p LN26A450 LCD TV.  As you can see from the image above it is 26 inches (should fit right into the hole where it is replacing my older TV).

I did my best job trying to make sense of all the 720p, 1080p, 360f mumbo-jumbo and I think for the distance I’ll be sitting at having the 720p will work great (I’ll be sure to give you a follow up review too).  I’m quickly becoming a bigger and bigger fan of NewEgg.com too, as that is where I ordered this, my current PC and my laptop now.

Grab a few more technical specs about this TV at NewEgg.com and let me know your thoughts!

TV Downloads Not Perfect Yet

The ShieldOh crap, I missed The Shield!

That was my thought Wednesday morning while working. Now when you miss a TV show there are several ways you can go to see it again. I could have searched for a rerun, but that would take too long. I haven’t ever downloaded any TV shows via one of the many services out there - so I thought this would be a perfect chance to try it out.

My first thought was to go to iTunes to download it. I checked, and it was available. Where’s the problem? I don’t want to keep it on my computer, and I want to be able to re-download it. There does the iTunes idea out the Window.

Next I remembered Amazon’s Unbox service. I found The Shield listed, but they still did not have Tuesday night’s episode.

There is always the torrent way - finding a seed for it somewhere, but that was ridiculously slow. Plus, if I can get a good quality video and get it fast, I don’t mind paying for it.

My last ditch effort paid off though. I found Direct2Drive after doing a little searching, and they had what I needed. Whoo hoo! Other than needing Internet Explorer to get it going (yuck) it was not a bad experience at all.

Red Dwarf

I have been a fan of Red Dwarf for I don’t even know how many years. I remember before I was introduced to the wonders of satellite television watching it on my local PBS channel really late at night.

Well just the other day I completed my DVD collection of the entire British series. I finally broke down and bought the last three seasons last week - and that is pretty much all I have been doing during my free time. Catching up watching episodes I haven’t seen in years.

I never really got into your Star Wars or Star Trek or anything else traditional with “star” in the title. So why get into a series about a group of guys traveling through space? It was one of the most brilliantly written television shows I have ever seen - thats why.

Even though it has been some time since their original airing - they are still good. You could watch it for your first time today, and not have that feeling that you watching a TV show that was on ten or more years ago. Can you say the same thing about the Fresh Prince of Bel Air? I don’t think so.

So if your wanting something new to watch or you want to find out more information - I would suggest checking out the official Red Dwarf Web site. Here are some more links to help you learn more about the series as well:
