Coe’s Quest is the YouTube web series I ran across when I was looking for a way to do more inside of the game of Minecraft. He has a very pleasant tone about him and his videos are not filled with cuss filled rants just for the sake of cussing. Not that I have anything against adult language – but I have been even able to show my two nephews an niece the videos without worry of having to cover their ears every two seconds.

Here is the first video – just to give you a sample of how neat this series of videos is:

You can learn more about Coe’s Quest from coesquest.com. I hope you find it as useful as I have when it comes to navigating around the world of Minecraft.

Want to unleash your inner pyromaniac? Fat Princess is the best place to do it. Grabbing a mage hat and setting the other players aflame is a very satisfying experience. Of course, turning them all into hunks of ice is pretty fun too. Let me guide you through the ways of being a mage in the PS3 multiplayer game, Fat Princess.

Mages might only have four hearts for health, but over time they have become a great melee character used to turn the tide of any battle. The mage class in Fat Princess has two stages to it too. Before that mage hat machine is upgraded, you can use the mage’s hat to burn people. After the mage hat machine is upgraded, you can freeze them with the upgraded ice mage ability.

Level One – Burn, Baby, Burn!

The default mage, the fire mage, is helpful at the first in rushing to the middle to capture any important outpost. As the workers gather wood and ore, the mages keep the other team at bay with the area burn. If a mage is targeting one opponent they can throw a fire ball. The longer they hold the charge button, the stronger the fireball attack will be. If the fire mage just holds down the charge button without targeting one opponent, then they can build up an area attack which will burn anybody on the other team that happens to be inside the circle of fire.

Here are a few more fire mage tips and suggestions.

You can light bombs with a charged area fire attack.

Thaw out your frozen teammates with the charged area fire attack too.

You can set wood on fire with the area fire attack, so warriors can light their swords or glaive and the rangers can light their bow or gun.

Level Two – Cool as Ice!

Once your mage hat has been upgraded, you can then play as the ice mage. The ice mage does everything the fire mage does, except with ice rather than fire. If a mage is targeting one opponent they can throw an ice ball. The longer they hold the charge button, the stronger the ice ball attack will be. If the ice mage just holds down the charge button without targeting one opponent, then they can build up an area attack which will freeze anybody on the other team that happens to be inside the circle of ice.

Here are a few more ice mage tips and suggestions.

A charged area ice attack can defuse bombs

Put out your teammates that are aflame with the charged area ice attack

Since the fire charge works faster, you could charge up an area or targeted attack as the fire mage, then switch to the ice mage.

Chicken Potion – Also, once the mage hat machine is upgraded – you gain access to the chicken potion. You can pick this up, toss it at the opposing team and turn them all into easier to kill poultry.

More Mage Class Tips and Tricks

Here are a few other things to remember about the mage class in Fat Princess:

Keeping a mage with the princess is a good way to stay on defense, and keep any princess rescuers and kidnappers at bay.

If frozen by an ice mage attack, you can rapidly hit the jump button to break free faster.

If burned by a fire mage attack, quickly jump into a body of water to keep from losing too many hearts.

The mage might be my second favorite class to play with, after the worker, in Fat Princess. There is just so much fun to be had when you can jump into a mosh pit of players from the other team, with a fully charged area attack. Nothing beats watching them all scream and run around on fire.

I hope these tactics helps out, next time you do battle in Titania.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

It is that time of the year where every news source out there gets so lax in creating content, they can only muster up the strength to put together a year in review for this, that or the other. Never to be one to disappoint, I thought now would be the perfect time to join the masses and share with you your favorite things I have posted.

Here are the ten most popular stories, tips, articles and tutorials I published in 2009 on Mitchelaneous.com.

Since it is October, time to look at even more things that go bump in the night. Growing up in the 80s to early 90s era, I had a lot of great horror villains to fighting me. We might not have had Dracula or Frankenstein, but we did have Freddy and Jason. So, to keep with the holiday spirit of the month, I decided to take a look at my top 10 horror villains of all time.

Why is it that we are all kind of amused by making Nintendo’s favorite plumber, Mario, so darn creepy looking? There have been some real oddities posted out there in the past that have put a new light on the overall wearing hero, but this one might take the cake on being the creepiest thus far.

Time to do another free desktop icon release! This time around, I figured I would focus on Mario’s favorite treat, the mushrooms of the Mushroom kingdom. It always kind of freaked me out that a power up was a decapitated head of one of the Mushroom Kingdom citizens. What do you think Toad would say if he saw Mario eat a mushroom? Would he be shocked? Could be they are all cannibals anyways.

Need to share a screencast in a hurry? Have a Twitter account? Screenr will help you create and share your own mini tutorials from your desktop with the world. The benefit here is that you can use a web-based recorder, on Macs or PCs to share how to do something or how something might look.

Here is the video tutorial I created, while testing out the service:

Screenr is simply the easiest of the online desktop screen capture solutions out there to use. All you have to do is hit the record button, choose the size you want to record and start capturing. While I did not, you can also record a video track if you want to do commentary as you record. I like the fact that you can also download the video (as a .mp4 file) or publish to YouTube too. I wish the video screen was a ‘bit more customizable, but hopefully that will be a feature to come in the future.

Once you are ready to publish, you can instantly share it on Twitter – or wait, and publish it elsewhere first. You can tell the target for this tool is to be another Twitter companion, however you don’t have to use it that way if you don’t want to. The developers have kept that part of the equation very free and open.

When push comes to shove, I could see myself using this tool again to create more quick tutorials. Screenr is simple, to the point, and doesn’t waste your time with fluff.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Sticky posts, will let you bump a story to the top of the homepage – without the need of editing the time stamp over and over again. This is handy for me, because with the Web Hosting Show’s site, I wanted to keep the most recent podcast pinned to the top of WebHostingShow.com – with new content following bellow it. With a little template editing, WordPress interface knowledge and some hard work – you can do the same.

How to Get Started with Sticky Posts

The best guide thus far on how to use this WordPress feature that was introduced back in WordPress 2.7 is Nathan Rice’s Definitive Sticky Posts Guide. Here you can learn how to make a post sticky from within WordPress, and how to edit your theme’s templates to reflect the changes.

Show More Than One Sticky Post

What if you want to get more than just one sticky post in your WordPress blog? Then you might need to check out how to get the latest sticky posts via WPRecipies.com. That have a code snippet up that goes right before the loop, that retrieves X most recent sticky posts.

All in all, it is a fun weekend side project to try out – if your looking to add a little something special to your WordPress powered web site.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

The WinSCP program (for Windows users) is a great alternative FTP client you should really try out. Totally open source, this program makes it safe when copying files between a local and remote computer.

I really like it when any FTP program can give me better integration with my operating system, and WinSCP does do that and more. You can create your standard shortcuts to it, add it to Window’s “Send To” context menu, and it can also be setup to be the default handler for SFTP and SCP URL addresses.

The WinSCP installer can also install drag&drop shell extension to improve WinSCP capability of downloading files using drag and drop.

Not sure where to start, after you downloaded it? They have a plethora of guides and useful tutorials to help get you setup. So next time you are looking for a free FTP program, and you have tried the other popular names out there, give WinSCP a shot. It might be the free FTP program experiance you’ve been looking for.

Now you can often hear me singing the praises of Paint.net, because it is an awesome free alternative to some of the most expensive photo and graphic editors out there. Another good one you should try is Photobie. It is a free download for photo editing, scrapbooking, animation, screen capturing and more.

Here is a screen shot of the program’s interface:

Here is a little more about the program from the developers:

Photobie is built upon .NET framework 2. It contains all general photo editing and painting features. It is a perfect screen capture tool for you to do screen capture and editing in one place. It is also a perfect digital scrapbooking tool that allows you to apply embellishment, masking and templating easily and efficiently. And it is a perfect animation tool that allows you to create GIF animation efficiently. It supports many embedded filters as well as Photoshop free 8bf filters. It supports user customized brushes, textures, masks and regions.

Now that might look like a lot of bells and whistles to play with. Thankfully, they have a lot of tutorials too. Here a few of my favorite Photobie tutorials I have found thus far out there (I’m sure I’ll find many more later!).

Photo Editing Tutorials

Paint and Graphic Project Tutorials

Screen Capture and Manipulation Tutorials

You can pick up this free image editing tool at Photobie.com. How do you think it stacks up to some of the other free image editors out there?

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!
