5 Simply Amazing Color Tools

Searching for the right tools for the job on the Web can sometimes be a difficult task to achieve.  Sure, there are many color tools out there to choose from, but which ones are just simply amazing?  Here are five tools I will bet you will be bookmarking soon.

color contrast checker

checkmycolours – here you have a tool for checking the foreground and background color combinations of all DOM elements and determining if they provide enough contrast for those who may have color deficits.

ColourGrab.com – Type in the URL of any online image, and this online tool will grab the HTML color codes for that image.

share color pallettes and news

COLOURlovers – Ever wanted a resource that monitors and influences color trends?  Did you ever know there were trends in colors?  Submit color palettes or review design and color news.

ColorBlender – Need an online tool that will help you match and blend colors?  Choose a preferred color using the color picker, and a 6-color matching palette (a “blend”) will be automatically calculated.

colors come to life in 3D!

ColoRotate – This one is just a fun one to play with.  In 3D, you can see the multidimensional nature of the colors you have picked.  What does that really mean?  You get to drag your mouse over and around a color diamond to help you find the right color scheme.

Know of another great color resource or which one of these is your favorite?  Let me know!

Twitter is Lame

Over the past few weeks I have been reading a lot about Twitter. At first I didn’t really get the idea behind it, and after I did finally “get it” – I wished I was still in the dark. Is it just me or is this just a really lame idea?

Who in the blue monkey hell wants to know that I am warming up a Pop-Tart at 8:45 PM on their cell phone? I know blogging got a bad name for a long time because it was stereotyped as a bunch of depressed goth teenagers talking about why they hate their mother and love their twelve cats.

Twitter is the Internet (or better yet user driven content) jumping the shark.

The worst thing about it all is that people are building up huge bills because of this stupid addiction. Why? So they can tell me, “Wow, that episode of Lost was KEWL”.

So what is the deal? When people post lame content via the Web they are lame, but when they do it via their cell phone it is somehow awesome? I think not.

Feed Reading Not There Yet

Sure, feed reading and RSS in general has gone a long way since the early days, but I do not think it is “there” yet. I was reading about the review of the current feed reading habits, and it does show promise.

I just can’t believe anything has caught on yet till my Mom thinks it is easy. Now she is “mid” tech savvy, and I think that is the world’s target with this stuff. When people outside of the tech sphere really find a good reason to use this stuff then we are all going to be doing a little ‘bit better.

Then again, when you mention Web 2.0, RSS, feeds or blogosphere to normal people, they still look at you like your crazy. We may have blogging Gods on the Web – but in normal life, they are just another loser with a habit that nobody understands.
