While I have been using Carbonite for some time as my personal off-site backup solution – I didn’t really have a way to share big files with other people. Carbonite fixed that problem for me because it really allows you to simply share anything you need to pass along.

You can add any kind of file and save it into your Dropbox folder. So say, Bill add a series of Word documents in his Dropbox folder and then shares that folder with me, I can then pull the documents out and edit them, view them and even add them back to the Dropbox to send back to him. It is hard for me to hold back my urge to describe the service as some sort of odd time space worm hole – but to me, that might be the best way to describe it.

If you sign up for the free version of Dropbox, you get 2GB of disk space to save and send your stuff. While that might not make it the perfect backup option – it does come in handy with collaborating on files with others. Check out Dropbox and let me know if you have found any other handy uses for it.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

The first thing you will want to do is head over to their Google +1 create a button page. From there, you first select the size of the button you wish to use:

Small (15px)

Medium (20px)

Standard (24px)

Tall (60px)

Once that is done, you can click on the link that reads, "Advanced options" to tweak a few more things, such as if you want to include the count, parse, JS callback function and the URL to +1. The final step is to copy and paste the code they provide to you and place it into your own website.

Google has been grasping at straws for a while to find a way for people to share content, in the same way that Facebook does it. You have to believe they would love to have that data in their own hands, and this is one way they hope to make that happen.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

All you need to do to get started is point your browser towards thin.gs and then type in the link you wish to shorten. Next, you hit the "Short it" button and then copy your link. They also have a pretty basic, but still useful API to play with too. To use it, just point your browser to:

http://thin.gs/api.php?url=yourdomain.com

Where "yourdomain.com" is the web address you want to shorten. You can also drag and drop this bookmarklet to your bookmarks toolbar to use thin.gs on any website to shorten any link.

Want to try it out for yourself? Head on over to thin.gs.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

When people ask me for my favorite way to add all those sharing buttons on a website, my answer is almost always AddThis. They provide the most tools in the best looking way – and isn’t that what most webmasters are looking for these days? If you need a way to add and track your social sharing buttons – AddThis is definitely the best route to take.

Just a few short years ago, I would tell you just to copy and paste the code for the button to your website. Plain and simple, right? Well, thanks to the fact that AddThis adds a lot of customization to how you can add these sharing buttons to your website – the best thing I can do for you is point you towards their button generator.

From there, you select where you want to put your buttons (your website, Blogger, Tumblr, WordPress and more). Next, you select the style of buttons you wish to use. Last, you decide if you want to enable clickback analytics, so that you can get statistics on how people are sharing your content. Once you are happy with how things look, hit the "Get the Code" button. The rest of the process is pretty straight forward.

I have tried just about every social sharing button website out there, and nobody beats AddThis when it comes to making the process nice and simple. They are the best place to grab your "Share on Twitter" or "Like on Facebook" style buttons – hands down.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Flickr is a great way to share your photos online, but using the browser tools might seem a little cumbersome to some people out there. If you want to upload photos directly from your PC to Flickr with only a few clicks in between, then you need the Flickr Uploadr.

With this free program, you simply right click on any image you wish to upload to Flickr, choose “Send to Flickr” and you get the window that is pictured above. You can also drag and drop files into the Flickr Uploadr too. From there tag your photos, write descriptions, give them titles and more. When you are done, upload and all your images you picked will be up and online on your Flickr profile.

The Flickr Uploadr supports both Mac and Windows, so go download it and start adding new pictures to your own Flickr profile. You don’t have an excuse now to put it off any longer!

Want to create and share a quick note with somebody? All you need to do is visit Rmmbr, type our your note and then share the URL with anybody. They will then be able to check out the note you have for them – and maybe even send you one back. Today, I will be taking a look at how easy it is to create a note using Rmmbr.

To create your first reminder, just type in a note into the text box on the website, like so.

Next, we hit the "Enter" key on our keyboard. That will create your note for you. Now you can write your note in the empty text box, or double-click the title to change it too.

Once you are happy with your note, hit the big "Saved!" button at the bottom of the webpage to make sure the latest version of your note has been saved. Now, all I have to do is share this link with anybody I want to see this note:

http://www.rmmbr.com/visit%20support.firefoxfacts.com

When you click that, you will be taken to go visit the note I created using the steps above.

The author of this neat website script has promised that more features will be coming soon, so you might keep an eye on this domain in the next few months for even more awesome features. Try it out for yourself at Rmmbr.com.

Looking for a simple and shareable notepad on the Web?

Wrttn hopes to the the Web 2.0 service you have been looking for. It has to be the most straight forward online notepad I have seen, but still brings home several features that make it really useful.

For example, if you don’t have your own place to blog about something you feel passionate about, you could write it on Wrttn and then share it with the world.

You can also easily embed YouTube, Flickr, and Vimeo content into your notes you create with this tool too. Want to make things a little more stylish looking? Drop in some custom CSS code by clicking the Options link, from the main page.

In what ways can you write your content up? Well, you can use markdown, textile, plain text or html. The choice is up to you. To learn more about Wrttn.me, make sure you go check out the website. If you find it handy, be sure to list some of your creations in the comments.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Looking for a way to embed articles or images into your own website layout? Embed Anything is an interesting new service that delivers you the chance to embed both on the fly. The idea here is simple, let your visitors embed your content – rather than just taking it.

Here are a few key reasons for giving Embed Anything a shot.

Embedded content comes with a link back to build SEO and traffic

Embedded content is invisible to search engines

Ad space contained within each embed lets you monetize embedded content

Reporting and control over which sites are embedding your content

So when somebody sees an image or an article on your website they would like to use, they will be offered the chance to embed it, rather than just copying it locally. This gives them an easier way to grab your content and re-publish it. It gives you the chance to gain a few more eyeballs with a link or two you might not have gotten without the service.

Overall I think it is a neat idea.

So if you want to offer a new way to share your content out there, I would say give Embed Anything a shot. I am really interested to see some real world feedback on it, to see how useful this service and tool is in the long run.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Need to share a screencast in a hurry? Have a Twitter account? Screenr will help you create and share your own mini tutorials from your desktop with the world. The benefit here is that you can use a web-based recorder, on Macs or PCs to share how to do something or how something might look.

Here is the video tutorial I created, while testing out the service:

Screenr is simply the easiest of the online desktop screen capture solutions out there to use. All you have to do is hit the record button, choose the size you want to record and start capturing. While I did not, you can also record a video track if you want to do commentary as you record. I like the fact that you can also download the video (as a .mp4 file) or publish to YouTube too. I wish the video screen was a ‘bit more customizable, but hopefully that will be a feature to come in the future.

Once you are ready to publish, you can instantly share it on Twitter – or wait, and publish it elsewhere first. You can tell the target for this tool is to be another Twitter companion, however you don’t have to use it that way if you don’t want to. The developers have kept that part of the equation very free and open.

When push comes to shove, I could see myself using this tool again to create more quick tutorials. Screenr is simple, to the point, and doesn’t waste your time with fluff.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!
