Instead of telling you what I see or what I know, I figured I would share with you some of my favorite Web hosting topics of discussion I have seen over the past few weeks. The Web hosting world is anything but boring - even if you have to hunt for the good stuff pretty hard sometimes.
1. “Simplicity is the New Spaghetti” for Both Google and You
Google co-founder Sergey Brin says that success will come from simplicity. Nicholas Carr calls simplicity the new spaghetti and tries to consolidate Google’s many, many products into 5 categories (web presence, web office, content sharing, ad platform and search platform) - because 5 is the magic number; Eric Schmidt says that’s as many as most people can remember.
2. Whois Search in Your Taskbar
Now it is not very often that I find a free download for the Web hosts and Web hosting clients to use out there. Sure you have your FTP clients and log analyzers, but I have something for you that is even better than that. How would you like to do simple and quick Whois searches from your taskbar? That is what Project Whois promises to deliver.
3. Introduction to SEO
For my first blog I would like to start with the basics of SEO. For anyone who knows little or nothing about SEO you might find this helpful and for those who do know about SEO, stay tuned as I will be giving more tips and tricks to help you dominate your industry.

Over the past few weeks, it really has been an hour to be a small part of the Lunarpages team.
I am really happy with the way their blog is shapping up as well. Once just a place for their “master of marketing” Amy Armitage, it is now quickly becoming one of my favorite places to read (and write!). This goes way beyond just being a blog for a Web hosting company. They are putting together one heck of a writing team - and it shows.

Does anybody even care about Google PageRank anymore? I remember a few years ago it used to be all that you would see on the Web development forums out there. Everybody wanted to know how to make it better, bigger, faster, stronger.
These days though I just don’t see that as much as I used to. It seems like I used to hound on my Web sites a little more as well. I’d watch every time the search engine went through a “Google Dance” and hopped that my numbers would go up. Maybe these days we just have too many alternatives to choose from. Sure Google is still a power player in search, but there are other ways of generating traffic. Ways that did not exist a few years ago.
So Google PageRank, where did you go? Why are you not so important to me anymore?

SE-Inspectors is a nice tool for those of you who want to go out and see how “search engine ready” your Web site is. It checks your meta tags, text, URL, link popularity, and keyword density. I just ran a few of my own domains through it, and it looks like I am pretty ready for any search engine to crawl my Web sites at any given moment. How ready are you?
