When getting started building a brand Online, a lot of people ask what should they do first? Well after you get your content flowing, you need a way for people to follow that content. That is where RSS and all the various feed readers out there come into play.

Everybody has their own way of doing things though, so you need to make sure you meet everybody’s needs. Thanks to services like FeedBurner, this is pretty easy. From inside their web site you can generate tons of those subscription links, as well as your standard big orange button and even e-mail newsletter management. It is by far the best option out there.

As a rule of thumb, you want to give people the ability to follow you via:

Your Domain (visiting your web site)

Via RSS (using the feed reader of their choosing)

and a newsletter (which you can easily setup with an RSS feed with FeedBurner)

Also it never hurts to let people know your RSS feed over and over again. Such as how I am right now <strike>begging you</strike> informing you to subscribe to this feed if you want more informative posts just like the one you just read:

There is more than one way to subscribe to web pages and get the latest updates and news. Firefox itself can even become an RSS feed reader if you install the right extension. Now which extension is right for you?

Meet the Best Firefox RSS Reader Extensions Out There Today!

Beatnik

This first choice on our list is a very simple and easy one to use. It might not have all the bells and whistles you have come to know and love – but it does get the job done.

Wizz RSS News Reader

As far as features go – Wizz gives you a step up from Beatnik. With features such as domain search, watching lists, and optional server storage of feeds for easy access from any PC.

NewsFox

Not to be confused with Fox News, NewsFox gives you your news in a familiar format. It is very similar to usual three pane e-mail clients. You have the feeds on the left, the posts on the top and the preview on bottom.

Sage

Sage is one of the oldest of the Firefox RSS reader extensions. Still useful and reliable – many of the others have followed it in features and style. The newspaper feed rendering is also customizable via style sheets.

Want to Expand Your Live Bookmarks?

Feed Sidebar

Now for something a little different, the Feed Sidebar extension for Firefox gives the already grand Firefox Live Bookmarks feature a little ‘bit of a makeover. It displays the new items from your Live Bookmarks in the sidebar. Another that gives a little more function to Live Bookmarks is LiveClick.

RSS Ticker

While we are looking at extensions for Firefox that expand the functionality of the Live Bookmarks you can’t forget about the RSS Ticker. RSS Ticker loads your Live Bookmarks and scrolls their entries across your screen while you surf. You can also place it on the top or bottom of the Firefox browser so you can make sure your always informed about the latest goings on.

Reader Choices Out There for Everybody!

As you can see there is a tool for just about every kind of RSS feed reader. If you like to do a little light browsing, there are ones that are a little lighter on the features. For the hardcore RSS loving folks – you too have a few good picks on this list. Is there one I missed? Which one is your favorite?

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

It is the one big pain in the butt that we all complain about around the holiday season. It seems like the Christmas stuff comes out in the stores just a little too early for everybody.

Now I am no scrooge, but I think in a few more years Thanksgiving will probably be nothing more than a start of the Christmas holiday season. Is there a war on Christmas? Heck no! There is a war on Thanksgiving. Every year it seems to die down in importance.

Ok, I feel better now that I got that out of my system.

Personally, due to the wacky working schedules of my family – we will not be doing our Thanksgiving here till Saturday, so I have a little extra time to be thankful for a few other things right now.

As always I am thankful for still being at Lockergnome, it is a place that never seems to get dull because there is always something new to read or something new being done behind the scenes. I am also thankful that Lunarpages brought me on to help the Web hosting public, one confused newbie at a time.

I am thankful I have had more than 20,000 download of my eBook Firefox Facts. Also, I am thankful that you have allowed me onto your mp3 players for almost two years now via the Web Hosting Show.

Last but not least, I am thankful for all my readers (even the ones here) that follow my ramblings at all the different places that I share my views on the world.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Since the new Rojo is extremely buggy, I have had to move feed readers yet again. This time around I think I have found a keeper. NewsAlloy.com is one of the quickest and cleanest Web-based feed readers I have seen in a while.

I had no problem importing my OPML list into News Alloy, and once I did I was ready to go. You see, I like to see a long list of entries in my feed reader that I can scan down. Once I have reached the bottom, I want to be able to get rid of them for good. It is such a simple idea, I don’t know why more Online feed readers don’t provide this simple view aspect.

Another nice thing I liked about this service is it didn’t choke on my number of RSS feeds that I subscribe to.

So if you are looking for a quick and reliable way of going through your feeds, give News Alloy a shot.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

I have decided to move away from an application feed reader and back to an Online feed reader. Now there are plenty to choose from, but most of them are ugly and have too many bells and whistles. I tried using Bloglines – but five minutes later I got lost, and just closed Firefox in confusion. That is when I decided to give Rojo a shot.

Rojo does exactly what I want it to do. It let me import my OPML file from FeedDemon. It let me view 100 entries at a time. It doesn’t show me stuff I have already looked at.

When I look out there at reviews, Rojo doesn’t seem that popular. I really don’t have a clue why this is so, because I have loved it thus far. So if you haven’t yet found your perfect feed reader, I would suggest giving Rojo a shot.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!
