Free iPhone Giveaway!

Well I would give one away if I had one. Personally, I want to thank Apple for allowing me to skip out on reading and feeds today because I can’t freaking turn around without seeing another “I’m Getting an iPhone Man!” posts today.

I’m not bitter though, instead of fighting the noise - I’ll just contribute to it. :)

Where is the Web Hosting News?

My only major complaint with the Web hosting news industry is that there isn’t one. Almost every single big source of news inside of the Web hosting industry is nothing more than a press release dump. Now I have some good friends that write these press releases, so this is nothing against them. They are playing the game along with the rest of us.

I would like to see a source come out that did real Web hosting news though and didn’t just cut and paste press releases and call it news.

I want to see people doing investigations, research and putting together facts and information. Looking around the wild and wacky world of Web hosting, these places are few and far between. Why? It is too hard, that’s why. It is cheaper to pay one guy to sit there and cut and paste than it is to hire a team of writers who can give us something a little more than just the “company line”.

So where are the real Web hosting news Web sites?

Brilliant Marketing from PayPerPost

Yeah, my next project I start I want PayPerPost to run my marketing.

After reading all the comments, threats, pissing contests and shouting matches that have been going on Online about PayPerPost, I only have one thing left to say that hasn’t been said before. The PayPerPost team have had a brilliant marketing campaign!

Just look at how much buzz they have generated with such an easy idea. Get people to write about products, and have those people who make the products pay them for it.

Personally, comparing PayPerPost to cancer is a little extreme and stupid in my opinion. For a fresh Web 2.0 idea, why don’t we go interview a cancer survivor and see how they like the serious disease they had being compared to some Web site?

These idiots running around and saying that the sky is falling like Chicken Little with his head cut off are loons - plain and simple. It is not about “blogging ethics” it is about getting known. Good or bad, thanks to these loons, a lot more people know about PayPerPost and I am willing to be a lot more people are taking advantage of the deal.

Now with that said, do I get paid anything for what I post here? Nope. I make enough in Google AdSense ads to pay for my Web hosting and past that - I am just happy to be around and helping folks out.

Take TechCrunch for an example. The only reason PayPerPost gets mentioned over there is because is generates a lot of traffic and comments. Traffic and comments keep TechCrunch’s advertisers happy and signed on. Mike might as well be “in the sack” with these guys. He’s not even getting paid for the free press he is giving them.

You trolls need PayPerPost, the funny thing is though - PayPerPost doesn’t need the TechCrunch-like trolls. They are giving a chance out there to anybody and everybody. They don’t care if you are A-list or on “a list”.

Now to the ego driven maniacs out there that have nothing else better to do, just stop it. In the long run, you are helping them more than you are hurting them.

How To Get Attention

attention.pngNow it is no secret that I write a lot of articles and posts on a lot of different topics. From web hosting to Firefox to even freeware files, I pretty much cover it all. One thing that gets on my nerves more than anything else is somebody ordering me to write something about them.

I recently got an E-mail that started something like this:

Hi, I saw that you reviewed *Insert Random Topic Here* the other day. I can’t belive you missed reviewing my product. I have been around five times as long, and I have gotten so many awards. Why are you ignoring me?

Remember what your mother said about catching more flies with honey than vinegar? It was true! You think I am going to bend over backwards to help out a person like that? I don’t think so. Now how should have that have gone?

Hi, I saw that your review of *Insert Random Topic Here* and I loved it. Since you gave it a try, I would love it if you try my product as well. I have won a few awards for it, so I do think you might like checking it out. Thanks for your time!

If you want people to give you attention, try not to come off as an egotisical jerk.
