Always looking for a better way to get the thoughts of the crowd, I ran across crowd sound. What is this web site all about? It is less of a web site and more of a tool to help you uniquely gather ideas and suggestions from your followers.
We all like feedback right? Here is how crowd sound works. All you do is sign up for your free account, and then login. Once you do, you can embed the widget into your web site. Just copy and paste some simple JavaScript into your own design.
Now with the web site widget, you can add some entries. and then have other visitors vote up the idea or vote down the idea. So this separates things into the people who want to give you good suggestions and the people who just like to vote for things. You can also via the widget browse through the most recent or the most popular.
I think crowd sound is delivering a very unique way of looking at feedback gathering from your base. Those could be customers, they could be readers. The thing that is important is that you get their views to make your content better.

For those of you watching my recent twittering, you probably noticed that I ordered myself a new PC. The one thing that made me really reluctant about moving from my old 3 or 4 year old previous Windows XP machine was Windows Vista. I have heard so many horror stories on the Web how could somebody not be scared?
After spending some time with it last night though I have to say it is not that bad. Sure, there is room for improvement - but think about any previous Windows version. It is never “right” when you pull it out of the box. It takes a lot of tweaking, love, tossing midgets at it and affection before you get it the way you want it to be. Read the rest of this entry »

With all this talk about Windows Vista, it made me want to reach out and try something different and new.
So a few days ago, on a total whim - I downloaded and burned a live CD for Ubuntu. This Linux flavor seems to be all the rage these days so I wanted to see what all the fuss was really about.
Now I haven’t ever used linux for long periods of time. I did have a phase where I was playing with Fedora, but I never had a reason to use it - so I never did. With my good old reliable and easy Windows PC in the corner there was no need or urge felt to learn how to do things. That is my fault.
Back to Ubuntu though, it is nice. It might not be Vista candy-coated-shell nice, but it does look like something I could use from a day to day basis. The only problem I have is finding the time to switch over and learn how to do the simple stuff all over again.
I don’t use Windows because I love it, I use it because it is convenient. I grew up on Windows and everything I know thus far (as far as computers are concerned) is based around Windows.
Maybe one of these days though, if I can take a week off to dedicate myself to switch - I would. Overall I would say it was nice, but I don’t know if I am totally ready to switch over for my day to day activities just yet.
If anybody has an good suggestions for articles or books on making the transition a little easier I might give it a shot. Could always keep Windows on my notebook and Ubuntu on my poor old PC that would probably kick the bucket if I even whispered the word “Vista” in its ear.
