I am going to look at both types of mobile marketing today – and you tell me, which method works best for you?

As I mentioned above, the newer mobile marketing definition covers the world of mobile phones, while the older definition of mobile marketing covers marketing in a moving fashion, for example moving billboards.

Old World Mobile Marketing

Advertising on billboards or road signs you see on the highways of the world is a ‘bit dated, in my opinion. It is something we have all learned to really ignore – so I would not recommend it for anybody looking into "do it yourself marketing" unless you plan on climbing up on top of one of those road side billboards to plaster your domain over it. Let us try to stay way from jail, and instead take a look at the new world of mobile marketing.

Mobile Phone and Device Marketing

When you start talking about marketing via cell phone, then you are mostly looking at messages delivered via MMS or SMS. These have become acceptable forms of advertising because, unlike with email over the web, the cell phone carriers can police their own networks and have a set of rules for advertising via their services. You can also target your advertising dollars at the mobile device market these days too.

No matter how much the mobile marketing world has changed over the years, one thing remains true. You still want to do all that you can do to get eyeballs to check out your content. While advertising via mobile devices and billboards might seem more for bigger businesses, you should have a good idea of what options will be out there for you in the future – depending on how your budget grows.

Spent the better part of yesterday afternoon moving out my old desk and getting a brand new one set up. Now, my old desk and I had some fun times – must have had it at least five or six years. However, the fact that any time you slightly bumped it made everything on, in and under the desk rumble finally made me decide it was time to upgrade.

The desk I decided to go with is the Walker Edison 3 Piece Home Office Computer Desk. From now on, I will just reefer to it as the PlayStation 3 desk – because the glass top is so shinny and black.

Now it will take me a little while to get used to typing with the slide out keyboard, and not sure yet where I will keep my mouse. Other than that though, I love this new desk. It feels reliable, tough and with the steel frame – I don’t have to worry about it going though the wear and tear like my old compressed wood desk did.

So there you have it. This is where I will be bringing you the latest Mitchelaneous posts, Firefox Facts and Web Hosting Show podcasts.

Well, I just checked out the trailer for the new A Nightmare on Elm Street remake, and I already hate it. Showing once again that Hollywood has no original ideas anymore, they are taking this classic horror film and making it more, “modern”. Here it is, if you haven’t seen it yet.

That might not be bad if it wasn’t A Nightmare on Elm Street, but for such an epic movie series that was a huge part of my childhood, I am disappointed. What is my biggest complaint?

Where is Robert England?! – I might sound like an irrational fan boy, but you can’t have Freddy Krueger without Robert England. Want proof? Just look at the side by side comparison:

The new Freddy looks more like the Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz, than a scary movie villain.

The only thing that would be more sacrilegious would be if you had an Evil Dead movie, without Bruce Campbell playing the role of Ash.

Now, I could mention the fact that Michael Bay has something to do with this (what, is Freddy going to blow people up with multiple pointless explosions?) but I think I hit the nail on the head with my biggest complaint, thus far.

Thank you Hollywood for taking a childhood memory, and ruining it yet again.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

I broke down and bought a new computer. After having my last PC for a good four or five years, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to lay down some cash on a new one.

Since I do all my work remote, it is something that I need to have to make an income – so why not spend a little extra? That was my internal argument before hitting the buy button for this beauty.

I ended up going with the HP Pavilion Elite and I am pretty darn happy. Of course, I had better be because the final price was a little over $2,000.

Here is the run down on all the geeky stats:

Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600(2.4GHz)
Memory 3GB DDR2 667 (2 x 1GB & 2 x 512MB)
Hard Drive 1000GB 7200RPM SATA
Optical Drive 1 SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology
Optical Drive 2 DVD-ROM drive 16x max. speed
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card with 640MB dedicated video memory, Up to 1919MB Total Available Graphics Memory as allocated by Windows Vista
Audio Integrated High Definition audio
Wireless Card Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n
Operating System Windows Vista Ultimate

You can get the rest of the specs on it over at NewEgg.com.

So was it worth it? So far – yes! Why HP? I have owned now 3 HP machines (4 counting the laptop) and they have always done me right as far as support and quality of the machines. I am just now getting out of the setting up phase and into the tweaking phase.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

I often get asked, “How exactly can I get a job at a web hosting company?”. Well, I promise you don’t have to be a total web hosting junkie – but it helps. One common misconception is that you need to know all the ins and outs of a server. Sure, that might help as well but there are plenty of web hosting jobs that keep you far far away from the technical stuff.

Cut to the Chase, How Can I Quit My Job and Start in Web Hosting?

So how does one get a job in the web hosting game? That is the topic I covered on this week’s Web Hosting Show guide podcast. From begining to end I spend the entire show covering the following topics:

Am I an Employee or a Contracted Worker?

Experience Workers Make the Best Workers!

Show Me Some of That Web Hosting Money!

What Type of Web Hosting Jobs Are There?

Where Can I Find Available Hosting Jobs?

Plus a heck of a lot more. If your looking to switch jobs, this episode was done just for you. Interested? Don’t wait – learn how you can get your first hosting gig courtesy of the Web Hosting Show podcast.

Now I know my popularity is nothing more than a blip on the World Wide Web’s radar, and there are those out there that might be better, faster, and stronger than me. I can tell you though that it never hurts to try something new.

When it comes to getting your Web site to become the next big thing or even just to have a small audience, you have to try a few things out before you figure out what sticks. Here are my personal tips that I have gone through and hopefully you can learn from.

Now I know you are not suppose to think out loud Online because somebody might come by and snatch up your idea before you get around to doing it. I am going to do a little thinking anyways. If anybody has any feedback or additional thoughts, you can always leave a comment to let me know.

I am considering re-launching Hosting Hoopla as a big resource list for the Web hosting industry. Something like my resources page for the Web Hosting Show, but bigger and better. The whole content aggregation idea was a bust and never went anywhere. I don’t think the world of Web hosting was ready for something like that.

Of course I would have to come up with a unique way of getting things posted to the Web site. Just an idea for now, but I would love to hear if anybody thinks I should run with the idea or are we tired of that idea?

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!
After my offer to the world for my “professional services” more than a few folks came out and offered me a job. I have to thank everybody who did so, and I wish I could work for you all. After much debate though, I decided to go with Lunarpages.com. Starting tomorrow, I am going to be working on their forums and doing pre-sales chat for them. I know, it isn’t the biggest job in the world, but I didn’t want too much work. I just wanted a 9 to 5 type job to where I could keep doing my writing, and get some extra cash on the side.

It has been two years since I last worked in this type of job, but I think as soon as I get used to it again, all should be well. Customer support is like riding a bicycle, right?
