Who wouldn’t love to have their desktop decorated in old retro video game boxes from the NES era of gaming? I’m back with another collage of NES box art for your to download and use as wallpaper.

Feel free to download this wallpaper, and use it all you want. It is 1920×1200 in size (because, well – that is my screen resolution) and I figured that should be big enough for others to re-size as they see fit.

Download the NES Box Art Wallpaper – Second Edition! (.zip)

I learned a lesson from the first NES box art wallpaper I put out, it was hard to see icons with all the colors and clutter. So this time around, I made it a little dimmer – so you can still see the box art, but your icons or anything else on your desktop should be more easily read.

Drop in with a comment if you like it, and I might be putting another one of these out from old NES box art images I have been saving from the Web.

Since my wallpaper highlighting old Atari 2600 carts was so popular, I thought I would revisit the idea – but this time I used old NES box art as my source.

Feel free to download this wallpaper (1920×1200) and use it all you want. It was mainly created because I thought it’d be a cool idea – and hopefully you think it is awesome too.

Let me know what you think, or if you would like to see any more box art or cart scan wallpaper creations. Thanks to all the wonderful (and some not so wonderful) artists of the past for creating these nice, odd and sometimes strange representations of these great NES games.

Everybody has had the dream of playing a classic game like Super Mario Bros with another character. Wouldn’t it be cool to run around the Mushroom Kingdom as Simon Belmont? How about Mega Man? Your dreams can come true thanks to Super Mario Crossover.

The idea here is simple. You play in the world of Super Mario Bros, but you have the choice of several different characters (other than just Mario). You can play as Simon Belmont from Castlevania, Samus from Metroid, Link from the Legend of Zelda, Mega Man from well… Mega Man and Bill from Contra.

Each character has all their original move sets and power ups, which makes for a very unique game playing experience.

It is very satisfying to whip a Goomba in the face.

Go play Super Mario Crossover for yourself and see what all the buzz is about. This is simply the best flash based Mario game I think I have ever seen.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

I recently did some reorganization of my various video game collections – to make things a little more manageable. Sorting most of the newest game systems seemed to make sense. Here is the top drawer in my filing cabinet collection which has all my PlayStation Portable, Nintendo DS, NES, Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games.

The PSP, Nintendo DS and NES games fit in really nicely. The Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games though have to be just tossed into a plastic bin – for the sake of keeping them in the same general area.

For the Nintendo DS, I have: Brain Age, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, New Super Mario Bros (missing from picture), and Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.

For the PSP I have: Lumines, World Poker Tour, Burnout Legends, Twisted Metal: Head-on, Mega Man Powered Up, and Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins.

For the NES I have: Bad Dudes, Super Mario Bros 2, Pro Wrestling and Batman

For the Gameboy I have: Arcade Classic 3: Galaga/Galaxian, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Arcade Classic 2: Centipede/Millipede, Paperboy, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, Mega Man IV, Metroid II: Return of Samus and Final Fantasy Adventure.

For the Gameboy Adance I have: Metroid: Zero Mission, The Legend of Zelda, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Fire Pro Wrestling 2, Final Fantasy IV Advance, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, Metroid Fussion, and Earthworm Jim.

Also in the drawer (between the Nintendo DS and PSP games) are a handful of PSP demo discs I got for being a member of PlayStation’s Gamer Advisory Panel.

Maybe not the biggest, nor the best collection out there – but I like them all. Stay tuned for more video game drawers in the future. I’m only getting started here.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Bionic Commando Rearmed recreates the original Bionic Commando game, but with a high definition twist, giving it a makeover after 20 years. I have been playing this one on my PlayStation 3 for the past few weeks, and have to say it is a great game from top to bottom.

Just calling this great game a remake does not do it justice. By mixing the old gameplay basics, with tons of new features, it stands out as how a remake should be made.

Now to be honest with you, I never played the original Bionic Commando, but that doesn’t make this one any less fun. With 2 player co-op mode, challenge rooms, and a slew of weapons, there is a lot of this 2.5D game to love.

Check out some Bionic Commando Rearmed Hits and Cheats

The best way to summarize Bionic Commando Rearmed is to say it is one of those aggravating games that you get mad at one minute, then you say to yourself, “ok, I am just trying it one more time”. It punches you in the mouth with that super extend-o arm, and makes you like it.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

About a week ago, I picked up the FC Twin. Now, what is it? In a nutshell it plays both old classic NES and SNES games. I have a good collection of old Super Nintendo games to play, and I picked up a few more old Nintendo games on eBay to check it out. Overall, it is a pretty nice machine – if you don’t pay too much for it.

First, I will give you my complaints.

Not all games will work with it correctly. Wikipedia has a list of a few games that you will have trouble with. I found on Contra 3, the bullets for the guns disappear every so often. It is also pretty ghetto when you pick it up for the first time. You expect it to have a little more “bulk” to it, but honestly feels like a couple of pieces of plastic slapped together.

Now, moving to the positives about the FC Twin, I really liked that this is two systems in one. Also, it comes with you standard red, white and yellow A/V cable, so no worrying about screwing an adapter on an off my HDTV. The controllers were a little stiff – but the system does work with the classic SNES controllers if you have a few laying around.

You can usually find these best on eBay, if you are interested in picking one up for yourself. When push comes to shove, it is a nice alternative – however I am still going to go hunting for both an old Nintendo and Super Nintendo. FC Twin just doesn’t recapture that Nintendo vibe very well. Call me nostalgic. I would give the system three freaky Mitchelaneous thumbs up out of five.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

I still have a little more room on my Wii for games, but I am coming close to having to ditch some previously downloaded titles for some new ones. Give me a couple more months, then I’ll join the chorus of people asking more disk space on the Wii (either via the SD card or by adding an external hard drive).

Here is my WiiWare and Virtual Console Collection so far…

Super Mario 64 – Childhood memory, spend many an hour on this game.

Sonic the Hedgehog – Never had a Sega, so thought I’d give it a shot.

Sim City – Seems to be slower than I remembered.

Contra III: The Alien Wars – Awesome fun, but really hard without a friend.

Super Castlevania IV – One of the best Castlevania games to this day.

Super Mario Bros. – Who doesn’t have this one downloaded?

Internet Browser – Handy to check Gmail and Google Reader on.

Mario Kart 64 – Fun, might might not make the cut if I need the room.

Kid Icarus – Another (never played it the first time) game but happy I have it now.

Everybody Votes Channel – Removed it since I only checked it out once or twice.

Splatterhouse – Gory fun, but still lacks something…

Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream – Fun boxing fun, where did Mike Tyson go?

Castlevania – Maybe it’s just me, but this is really hard!

Super Metroid – Could play this one forever, over and over again.

Super Mario Bros. 3 – Best multi-player Mario game to date.

Check Mii Out Channel – Removed it too, due to never using it for anything.

River City Ransom – Reminds me of a bad 80′s movie in a good way.

Defend your Castle – Well worth the $5 spent on it, and highly addictive.

Dr. Mario Online Rx – I needed a puzzle game, and Dr. Mario delivers flawlessly.

Anything else I should check out?

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Pretty much it is a game like Final Fight, but with RPG elements built into it. So you can buy items and power ups to make yourself stronger – but the game is all based around a side scrolling punch, kick and throw way of thinking.

If your needing help, found this large map (looks as if it was scanned in from an old magazine article). Final thoughts are that the whole thing reminds me of a bad 80′s movie – but in a good way.
