Association of Internet and Hosting Service Providers

The Web Hosting Show The Web Hosting Show was great this week.  I got a one on one interview with Paul Hirsch of the AIHSP (the Association of Internet and Hosting Service Providers) explaining this new web hosting group, what they hope to do and how you too can join up.  Check out the podcast for the entire interview:  What is the AIHSP? – Episode 162 of the Web Hosting Show!

Here are some of the questions I asked Paul about the alliance:

  • Where did the idea of staring up AIHSP begin?
  • After looking over a lot of the goals the AIHSP has set, a lot of them seem to be aimed to benefit employees. What about contracted workers, who often not given the same rights as an employee?
  • I have one major concern, what happens to the little web hosts?
  • What can people and businesses do if they want to get involved?

To learn more about what the AIHSP wishes to do, the best place to check out first (after you listen to the podcast, of course) is the AIHSP Goals page.  If you want to learn more about this exciting group or get involved yourself, check out aihsp.org.

Hosting Podcast Tease for Episode 158

Loads of hosting fun from this week’s past show. Did you check it out?
If not here are just a few topics from this week’s episode of the Web Hosting Show.

  • HostingCon Sold Off to iNet Interactive? – iNET Interactive, those darlings of the web hosting world who brought us such things as webhostingtalk.com, hostvoice.com, and hostingtech.com have acquired the HostingCon conference.
  • Interesting Tool to See if Your Site is Up or Down! – Previously I told you about an awesome web site status tool that could help you tell if your web site was up or not.  Down for everyone or just me looks to have become a real success.  I have one better though, thanks to a suggestion from a Web Hosting Show listener named John.
  • The Mess That Was .ME Domain Name Registrations? – You may have caught wind of some of the .me buzz last week, as GoDaddy started taking registrations for them for $20 a year (and you have to sign up for two years, so that should really be $40)… If eight people say they registered it, that will leave seven people really unhappy about the whole ordeal.
  • The Simplest FTP Program Ever!?! – I often hear complaints from people that FTP programs are too hard to use.  There are too many options, too many buttons and too many configurations you have to learn about.  For those people out there looking for a  simpler FTP program I offer to you DropUpLoad.

Interested?  Then go download and listen to the Web Hosting Show, episode 158! Also be sure to grab the RSS feed, and pick it up on iTunes too.

Rip MP3s from YouTube Vidoes

Now it isn’t often that I want to take the audio track from a video on YouTube, but the other day I found a collection of wrestling themes I really like to have a few selections from.  So to take the music from the uploads, I found a tool that will get it done.

FLV to MP3!

The FLV to MP3 Online Converter is the tool you want to keep handy.  So far it is still fairly quick with it’s conversion and when it is done doing that voodoo that it does so well it will spit out a .mp3 file for you to save, edit and rename as your own.

As a bonus, also be sure to check out my post on Firefox Facts that covers ripping mp3 files from music shared on MuxTape.com.

Make a Mix Tape

mix-tape Want an easy way to create a simple mp3 mix tape for others?  For those of you who may not know, mix tapes we’re what people passed around before all this music downloading and fancy mp3 stuff took place.

Now it has a new Web 2.0 look and feel with Muxtape.  I have yet to create one of my own (might make a best of the Web Hosting Show?) but after listening to a few of the others this is a great way to get a sample of a lot of different music.

Here are a few samples I picked at random:

Give it a shot, and if you have created a mix tape of your own feel free to share!

3 Years of Podcasting

This week marks the 3rd birthday of the Web Hosting Show podcast. Three years later and 143+ podcasts recorded, I think we are still going strong and thankfully can continue to say we are the number one web hosting podcast out there today and the one and only voice of the web hosting world.

Here is a little more of what to look forward to on episode 143:

It is not only my birthday, but it is your birthday too. The Web Hosting Show has been rocking the web hosting industry for three year now, and hopefully for many more years to come. No surprises, no special guests no fluff will be here today though. I am just going to do my job and give you a grade A podcast you will soon not forget.

Download the Web Hosting Show, Episode 143!

Thanks to one and all that have helped make the Web Hosting Show a winner.

BurnAware Free Edition

BurnAware Free EditionLooking for a replacement to your favorite burning application? There are many out there, but a new one to catch me by the nose and take me for a ride is BurnAware Free Edition. The package of disk burning tools is simple, but has enough to make it powerful enough to replace some of the classic crapfests that you can buy.

Thanks to companies bundling over thirty or forty different tools in with the big burning sofware packages (I’m looking at you Nero) I have been left to look at BurnAware Free Edition as an alternative. What does it deliver? Continue Reading →

Go check out the show notes for the visual version, and for the audio version download the mp3 from WebHostingShow.com.

Listen to the Angry Mob (I Mean Wonderful Customers!)

As I start working on next week’s edition of the Web Hosting Show podcast, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to take a look back at last week’s digital masterpiece.

The highlight of the show for me as far as advice goes was should web hosts listen to the customers – even if they are an angry mob trying to beat down your proverbial door? I say always – but then again, I’m all about making good public relations.  Here are just a few other topics from this week’s episode of the Web Hosting Show.

  • Another cPanel Backup Tool Review – Site Backup CP!
  • Best Blogging Scripts this Side of the Hosting River!
  • A New Hosting News and Resource Link Suggestion!
  • Tease on My Article in the Next Edition of Ping! Zine?
  • Better Tools and Tips for Quick Responses!

Check it out on WebHostingShow.com or download the mp3 and listen while you yourself figure out if your going to deal with those angry mindless clients banging at your door. Afraid it might be too late to dig out an escape tunnel.

I took last week off from the podcast so I could work on tweaking the layout there and getting things more modern looking. There were a lot of small things I had to change after the big layout re-design, but now the show is back on track with a freshly squeezed new episode.

  • Free File Hosting (Up to 1GB) With File123.com!
  • Positives and Negatives of Cheap Hosting?
  • Marketing: Free Layouts Are Traffic Hunters’ Gold!
  • Who’s the Fastest Growing Domain Name Register?

Now that we are back on track – you should go check out podcast 119 (.mp3) and feel free to share with me your feedback, thoughts, comments and more.
