Favicons are an important part of any website these days.  They are your tiny 16 by 16 identifiers for your brand, your store, your blog or your business. If you are looking for a great tool to help you create the favicon you want to use – give favigen a shot.

On this website, you can browse your computer for any image:

Choose the image dimensions you want to use, in your next step.  Once you have done that, then hit the submit button.

Once you have done that, then you will be given a link where you can download your new favicon from to use on your own website.

Favigen is one of the nicest looking favicon creation tools I have seen in a long time.  Sure, it does not have a lot of bells and whistles, but if all you are doing is generating tiny images – do you really need a lot of bells and whistles?  Give it a shot for yourself over at favigen.com.

Looking for a specific type or kind of icon for your next big design project?  Well, I have found three different icon search engines to help you in your pursuit of the perfect icon.

FindIcons – This tool features a sophisticated search filtering and result matching system both make it possible for you to get an icon you need in every design tasks. In other words, you type in the keyword that describes your icon, hit search and then grab the one you need.

Iconfinder – This is one I have been using for a while now.  Featuring over 164,000 icons and over 550 icon sets, you are bound to find an icon you like or that will fit in perfectly with your design here.

ICONlook – Last, but not least – you have ICONlook, which also serves as a great way to search and find new icons from all over the web.  It also includes search filters, so you can search for a file 12×12, 16×16, 22×22 and well, you get the general idea here.

So there you have it, three great ways to go search for new icons and images.  Out of the three, I really like Iconfinder the best.  If you have another you think does the job better – be sure to leave it in the comments!

The quick talking and walking Blade Man was the guide to an ancient castle before the Roboenza incident. The castle’s lord had a fascination with swords, which inspired the robot’s design. He knows a great amount about weapons and swords and can speak on the subject for a very long time.

Commando Man jumps around while firing Commando Bomb. Be careful as the shockwave from the bomb reaches out and can still hit you. Whenever Commando Man lands, he shakes the ground and stuns you if you’re on the ground.

Before contracting Roboenza, Commando Man was a mine-sweeping robot who used remote detonation techniques to clear minefields all over the world. It is also said that he enjoys tasting oil from the various countries he visits.

Why do I love Nitro Man?  He might give you the best weapon upgrade in Mega Man 10.  The Wheel Cutter attaches to Mega Man’s arm to dart at enemies.  By releasing the attack button, the Wheel Cutter is then launched at enemies, following the contours of the landscape.

Pump Man worked at a wastewater treatment plant, purifying the water that comes through. He also volunteers his time to wash graffiti off of walls in the neighborhood. Pump Man has also been described as a “neat freak.”

Did you know Solar Man worked in a sunlight research lab before he went berserk from Roboenza. In his spare time he developed a “Solar Workout” plan which has experienced small success.

Strike Man does a good job at giving me a believable back story.  If all the robot masters had practical uses, Strike Man has be best in Mega Man 10. Now you can use him to replace any icon on your PC.

Here’s a ‘bit more information about Strike Man:

He was a batting-practice robot for a stadium before he malfunctioned due to Roboenza. In one incident, he purposely hit a batter that he disliked with a pitch, sending him to the hospital. He also gets upset when he gives up too many hits.

Mega Man 9 was great, and I have a feeling Mega Man 10 is going to be even better.  Although I haven’t picked Mega Man 10 up yet (trying to decide if I want the PS3 version or the Wii version) I couldn’t pass up the chance to do a few more desktop icons for you.

The first Robot Master I’ve picked to create a desktop icon for is Sheep Man.  Yes, he is over the top corny – but that is what makes him such a great selection.  He is this year’s Plug Man.

Here’s a ‘bit more of a bio for Sheep Man:

Originally a robot created to manage sheep on a ranch. One day he became aware of the static electricity stored in his wool, and changed careers to giving lessons about static resistance at a circuit board factory. However, he’s gotten wary of this and is considering changing jobs again. He can divide his body into cloud-like puffs and rain down static electricity like lightning.
