HostingCon 2007 Gets Going

I nearly forgot that HostingCon is getting started today. I wouldn’t really consider myself really excited, but it should be interesting to watch what sort of coverage comes from the event. I noticed over at Clickfire they will be covering the event. I also have a few friends that will be there as well.

How come I am skipping out on the event this year again?

Eh, it’s a long trip and I’m not sure how big the payoff might be. Right now I am happy to watch from the sidelines and see how many of the big hosting web sites cover it if they do so at all. HostingCon is the like the Super Bowl of the web hosting industry.

For more ideas on what you can expect to see and hear in the next week or so at HostingCon go back and check out my interview I did with HostingCon’s head honcho George Roberts on Web Hosting Show episode 110. For our post-HostingCon coverage I hope to get a few friend on the podcast again to talk about what they thought about the event. If you have anything to say, feel free to drop me a line about it.

HostingCon Podcast

For the second year, I was able to get George Roberts (the guy behind the magic at HostingCon) on the Web Hosting Show for an interview.

I have been a big supporter of HostingCon since day one. I think it is an excellent event and it has quickly become the biggest event of the year for anybody who has any interest in the web hosting industry. Each year about this time I get just a little more excited because for web hosting enthuists this is almost as good as Christmas. (more…)

Tune in to episode 110 of the Web Hosting Show to hear the full interview.

Go check out the Web Hosting Show for a slew of Hostingcon 2006 interviews and audio segments. I have dumped them all into one category for you to find, share and listen to easily. Of course, big thanks have to go out to TopHosts.com for doing all the hard work. They were the ones who got the interviews and segments, I’m just the one who shares them. :)

Hostingcon 2006 Audio Debate

hostingcon2006.pngWell, it looks like the head honcho of Hostingcon noticed my comments about the Hostingcon CDs being a little over priced. This is what George Roberts had to say.

Please keep in mind that the price you quoted is for the whole program on CD, which is 32 CDs. We do make individual tracks available for a lower price as well as each individual session available. For those that just want to pick up the audio for a couple sessions they missed it’s pretty reasonable at $15 per session.

Now I like George. As I have said before, he is one of the brilliant minds of the Web hosting industry. I just think he is overlooking a few things.

Ok, I do realize that it is a big load of CDs you would be getting. If the price can’t be lowered though, how about giving us a few “Hostingcon bundles” to check out? Give me three or four CDs grouped together, and set the price under $100.

I want to look out for the Web host out there that couldn’t afford to go to Hostingcon - but still wants to learn something from the experience. I realize that profits have to be made, but cutting a few people a little slack should not hurt the bottom dollar.

Hostingcon on CD - Too Expensive?

hostingcon2006.pngMaybe this is just the cheap white boy coming out in me, but I think that paying $300 for a “Complete Conference CD Set” of Hostingcon 2006 is a little nuts. I’m not even sure I would pony up that much cash to go to the conference in person - let alone to hear it all on CD.

Want a cheap alternative? Go check out the Web Hosting Show podcast. There is more free audio and interviews there than you can shake a stick at. I won’t even charge you a penny to go listen to them.

To cut the Hostingcon guys a little credit, it does look like they have uploaded a free podcast for everybody to enjoy.
