Captain N: The Game Master

Recently picked up the DVD collection of Captain N: The Game Master.  Now many of you probably don’t remember it, but I sure do.  I was around 7 or 8 years old when it was in it’s first run and is one the the few Saturday morning cartoons I still have an itch to watch even today.

Here is a pretty good summary of the plot of the show:

The premise of the show concerns average California teen and Nintendo fan Kevin Keene and his faithful dog Lucky, who are both pulled into their game system to Videoland, an animated world populated by heroes and villains from various Nintendo games. There, Kevin must assist the N Team–a group formed by Princess Lana, Icarus (from “Kid Icarus”), Simon Belmont (from “Castlevania”) and Mega Man (from the game of the same name)–in defeating Mother Brain (from “Metroid”) and her henchmen from conquering Videoland.

Still doesn’t sound familiar?  Here’s the intro (the music still gets stuck in my head to this day) to the show:

If you can put aside all the storylines that don’t exactly match up with video game history, it is still a fun show to look back on.  I also stick by the same thing that I thought way back in 1989 - Mother Brain sounds like a drag queen.

Best of the Wii Zapper Ready Games

Over the past few days I have been playing a lot of the Wii’s Zapper games.  The light gun attachment for the Wii is a lot of fun to use, and I wanted to make sure I got my money’s worth on the deal.  Here are some of the best Wii Zapper compatible games I have bought thus far:

Link’s Crossbow Training

254px-Link's_Crossbow_TrainingYes!  Finally Link gets his name in one of the Zelda games!  Ok, this one I didn’t have much choice about due to the fact it came with the Zapper itself but I do have to say it is much more fun than I thought it would be.  Having the anticipation that it would just be a demo title showing me "how to use" the Zapper it ended up being an entertaining "pick it up when you have nothing else to do" game.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

51kHlaUfzoL._SL110_I have been a fan of the Resident Evil series, even though this is my first actual game in the series to own.  This game’s controls kind of makes you feel like the Zapper was a second thought (due to the fact you have to move your hand up on top to hit the "A" button a lot.  Other than that it is another cool "on rails" shoot’em up that ends up being very entertaining.

Go through some of the historic places from past Resident Evil games and shoot a lot.  That is this game in a nutshell.

Ghost Squad

gs Now I am not usually a big fan of the Army/Police first person shooter type games but for some reason this one looked as if it might be a lot of fun.  I have not gotten to spend much time with it yet but from what I have played it looks great.  There are also a lot of side routes you can take so one level never has to be the same twice.  Another great thing about it is you change your weapon type up as you go to suit the situation.  Tons of fun.

The House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return

51h-OnCxK-L._SL110_This title, as the name tells you right off the bat, gives you both House of the Dead 2 and 3 to play with your Zapper.

The voice acting in this game is so bad, it’s good.  I’m a big fan of your campy horror movies though.  I missed out both of these days the first time around but now I get to finally see what all the buzz was about.  You would be amazed how gratifying blowing the head off a zombie really is.

Any More Games for the Wii Zapper?

From what I have seen, only other one I’m missing is some army/war game (Metal of Honor?) but that really isn’t my cup of tea.  Know anymore Zapper ready games I should pick up for Wii?

Bored? Try Your Hand at Scribbls!

Have a little too much time on your hands this weekend?  I’ve got a web site that is filled to the brim with silliness that I think anybody could get a kick out of.  The Web site is Scribbls, and the purpose is to help put together two other drawing to make a new one.

here are a couple of examples:

bread-october

 platypus

Just as fair warning, some of the combinations get rather adult in nature - but it is all in good fun from what I can see thus far.  As with anything else these days, you can also vote for the best ones too - just in case your not feeling very artistic.  If anything can be said about Scribbls is that it is unique, which is hard to find these days.

Wii Fit isn’t THAT Bad!

I love reading the opinions of others all of the Web. It seems like before Wii Fit came out, nobody could stand the wait and everybody wanted to play. Now that it is out, about half the people who wanted it are trying to find ways to shoot it down. Well I can say for myself, I have it (and the balance board) and I still love it.

Having spent two days with it - I can give it my two thumbs up. Sure, it isn’t going to make me into a body builder, but with the job I do I need something that gets me up and moving. My nine to five job is sitting right here writing articles or answering questions. Not a lot of physical movement there (my fingers could totally whoops yours though). The past two days I have looked forward to working out with Wii Fit for 30 minutes or so, so for me it has been a perfect fit.

Best review or resource I have read thus far actually comes from MTV. The walkthrough with a real physical trainer gives you an insight on what you should and should not expect.

Desktop Tower Defense

It has been a long time since I got totally hooked on an Online game. Just don’t play them that much. That all changed though once I finally got around to playing Desktop Tower Defense. This game is simple - yet addictive.

Desktop Tower Defense

“So of course I clicked on the link and have been “testing” the game ever since. It’s free and Flash based, and very simple. Bad guys come at you in a highly predictable way. You build defenses that take them out. If any get through, you lose a life. I’ve gotten to level 72. Can’t get past it.” - TechCrunch

Play it yourself and find out what all the buzz is about.
