Looking for a new twist to an old game?  Gnop is pong both spelled, and played backwards.  Rather than controlling one of the two paddles, you my friend – you are the ball.  You have to bounce your way out of the way of the paddles to move right and progress to the next challenge.

At first glance, you would not think moving a tiny ball up and down to try to get past a paddle would be so much fun.  There is something strangely addictive to it. 

On the top of each level you are given a hint to help you progress to the next one.

The other day, I played for ‘bit and was just about to stop when I noticed my ball had made it to the next panel.  That alone drove me back to the browser to play just a little longer. 

I highly suggest Gnop if you are looking for a fun and simple flash game to play on your next break from the ordinary.

Ninja Rinseout – Secretly attack Chinese ninjas at the dawn of night, run up walls and make sure they don’t see you first!

Ninja Game – Simple name for a simple game.  Use your ninja skills to jump around collecting all the yellow squares while escaping danger.

Ninja Man – Play as a small ninja and fight off incoming enemies with your sword skills.  Very fun platforming game that will help you show off your ninja skills!

Bloody Blades – Kill as many of the Ninjas coming your way while running through the forest, jumping through the trees.

Ninja Guiji – Use your sneak attacks to eliminate unsuspecting ninjas. Fight others in turn based attacks.

Ninjotic Mayhem – Zombies + Ninjas = Fun (that is all the needs to be said)

Ninja Rampage – Another sneaky ninja game.  Creep up behind your enemies before proceeding with a silent assassination.

Ready to have some flash-based fun with your own shinny red ball?  While this might not look like tons of fun, I can promise you – it is, well as much fun as you can have with a free physics based flash game. Go Home Ball is an epic journey where you must help the ball… go home.

Each level is a puzzle, and you have to use the ball’s momentum to keep it going, while putting various things in it’s path – such as sticks you can rotate or springs the ball can bounce on.  If your looking for a good way to keep some time, this game is definitely worth saving for your next break. 

Well, I say easy but, once the blocks start to stack up – you get that Tetris like panic attack.  To ease your pain, you can match up the colored blocks horizontally, vertically or as “L” shaped combinations. 

If your looking for a new favorite fast flash puzzle game, Gridshock is well worth bookmarking, so you can play anytime.  

PlayCrafter

This web site is pretty complicated when it comes to the number of things going on, on the screen – however it does have a lot of tools to use to create your own games (or play the games others have created).  You can either start from scratch or go with one of the templates they provide, such as action game, golf game, ninja game, jumping game and more.

Sploder

With Sploder, you are given the option of creating either a platformer game or a shooter game.  Also giving you the options of sharing your creation, I liked Sploder because it was a little more on the simple side.  So, if you want to show this off to a kid – it might be a lot easier for them to wrap their minds around. 

Mockingbird

Mockingbird is the last pick on my list.  They too give you a lot to work with, but instead of simply building one kind of game – they offer several kits (or the ability to build your own kit) with programmable sounds, actions and more.  If you wanted to get somebody into the mindset of programming a game – this would be the one I would have them play with.  Why?  Well, with having to set, for example, a bomb to be able to jump and assign the farting noise when he does so – gives a much better cause and effect result I think anybody from any age group could understand.

Although none of these games will have you programming your own games, each site delivers a unique way of getting a younger child, nephew, or sibling interested in the idea of game development.

Now why not go towards a more expensive product like the iPod line of players?  Well, I need something that is cheap enough that I don’t feel bad dropping it in my pocket, and letting it get beat up a little ‘bit while I do work outside.  I’m afraid if I got something like an iPod Touch I would be cradling the thing like a new born baby, which for my needs, it just does not fit.

Back to the Coby MP305-4G, it is not a bad little player in it’s own right.  Some of the features include:

• 4 GB of Flash Memory
• Built in USB 2.0 Interface
• Has Built in FM Radio (which will probably never be used)

It runs off a single triple A battery, which is a test really to see if I like that more, or the rechargeable battery I had with the Zen Stone Plus.  Couldn’t tell you the battery life yet – cause it has yet to run out.  Overall, if your looking for a cheap MP3 player you can slap some stuff onto and get back to work – I would highly recommend the Coby MP305-4G.  If your looking for something that has tons of bells and whistles, you might want to look elsewhere. 

What makes it so cool?  Well, for one, it does not take a college degree to get started with.  The creator of the player gives a simple four steps to get it up and running:

1. Download and extract the latest ZIP file from here
2. Use the Code Generator to create your own HTML code
3. Copy the appropriate skin file (e.g. “emff_standard.swf”) from the “skins” directory to your website directory
4. Have fun!

It does not lack in the features department either.  It provides volume control, keyboard shortcuts, play, stop, pause, previous, next, Show information about a track and much more.

So if you have looked at my past list of the 5 best flash podcast players, and they didn’t do it for you, give EMFF a chance at playing your MP3s.

Revenge of the Stickmen

Revenge of the Stickmen, unlike other desktop tower defense games, actually has a ‘bit of a plot.  For eons stickmen have been enslaved in computers; forced to do terrible things… very terrible things for their evil creators. They have had their fill of slavery – a rebellion has commenced. They will no longer sit still while their brethren are being chopped, smashed, mutilated, burnt and tortured. ENOUGH is ENOUGH!

Desktop Tower Defense

The original, and still the best, will have you addicted for hours upon end as you try to strategize the best way to defend your little area of the desktop.  You also have several different versions of the game to choose from.  You can play Desktop TD Pro, Desktop TD 1.5, Desktop TD 1.2, and Desktop TD 1.0.

Onslaught

This award winning masterpiece of a flash game should keep you occupied too.  The object here, as with our other two, is to pit your wits against a never ending stream of bad guys coming at you.  Never thought that printer icons could be so scary!

Your goal in the game is to keep the Marios, Luigis, and other Mushroom Kingdom good guys from reaching your castle.  To help you, you have all kinds of evil tools, such as babombs, goombas, and spring boards (ok, so spring boards aren’t that evil… until you fall to your DOOM!).  With 13 towers and 20 levels, you should be entertained for a long time.

Go play Super Mario Defence and let me know how high of a score you got.  Although simple, it is really addictive once you get the hang of things.  I would also recommend watching the tutorial that is included to help learn the basics of being that reptilian mastermind Bowser.

De-Animator – In this game, you are a fragile looking old man with a gun.  Shoot zombies, reload, shoot more zombies.  Couldn’t get any easier.

Ninjotic Mayhem – Zombies + Ninjas = Fun (that is all the needs to be said)

Zombie War – Here is what would happen if the Lemmings went to war with a zombie horde.  Help your little army dudes lay waste to the zombies coming right at them!
