Western Digital Passport Hard Drive

A few weeks back I picked up my very first external hard drive for backing up my files on my computer.

Now after doing some searching around and looking for exactly what I needed, I ended up with the Western Digital Passport Hard Drive. This little 60 GB hard drive does everything I need it to do.

Now some might ask, why not get a bigger one? Well, right now - I just don’t need it. This one comes with more than enough space for my personal files and backups, so I am golden there. By the time I need more space, I’ll probably want to buy a new external hard drive anyways.

I love the exterior of this thing as well. The case is shinny and black. I am almost afraid to touch it because I don’t want to get my fingerprints all over its sleek design.

Western Digital Passport Hard DriveThe software that comes with it is a little dumpy and ugly, but it gets the job done. All I have to do is plug in the hard drive, start the program, hit a button and I am backed up.

One built in functionality I really like with the backing up software is it sees my Firefox preferences and backs them up too. One less file for me to have to hunt down and but in the backup myself. I like it.

If you are looking for a small backing up solution, I would suggest checking this one out. It is a keeper for sure!

Neater External Links

The folks over at arc90 lab have come out with another neat tool. This one makes it super easy to add those little external link icons next to your links.

The fourth tool out of the Arc90 lab addresses one of those problems that every web developer has struggled with at some point: opening links in a new browser window. External Link is a script that appends an icon to external links — an icon that opens the link in a new window. Now, the user has the choice to follow the link in the current window by clicking on the text, or open it in a new one with the icon. It’s a nice, clean solution.

+ Check out some of the other lab work!
