The team behind Meteora have set out to do something different and cool. They have launched a lunch box filled with rich and customizable web applications that you can use right here, right now. No pages of documentation to be read, and no need for excessive programing knowledge.

Here are a few more details from the developers:

Meteora is built on top of MooTools and the package comes with a full version of that framework. If you’re already a MooTools user you may read Quick start for mootools users, if you have not used MooTools before just keep reading.

After you have uncompressed Meteora, you’ll notice that it’s around 1.1M in size, this is mainly because of all the images it contains, also because it’s distributed with a full version of the MooTools framework. But do not worry about loading times, with Meteora’s automatic dependency resolution your browser will download only the javascript the page needs and nothing more.

I do have to say, some of this looks even easy enough for me to wrap my head around. These tools would be perfect to slice into your recent project or web page and offer a lot of eye candy and functionality to the mix.

Not convinced yet? Check out the demos to see this powerful set of tools at work.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Want to see how popular you are on the Web? I recently found a pretty neat program that checks your popularity against some other web sites that you might be competing against for eyeballs out there on the Web. Link Popularity Check does an alright job and giving you the facts and figures you need.

Once you get Link Popularity Check installed, this is the type of readout they deliver to you:

The positive of this program is it gives you a nice visual representation of where you stand out there with some of your competitors. It searches Google, HotBot, AllTheWeb and MSN search. The downside is that you have to put up with some advertisements and be careful not to give your e-mail address to their “newsletter”. As you can see a lot of information there to comb through to find out what is working and what you might need to work on.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

When leaving Lockergnome and mainly the web developer newsletter, I was sad to see it go. Now though I am excited to drive the working and dedication to a new project – helping to build up Lunarpages Lunartics blog. This blog is the official blog of Lunarpages, and I think I have done some good things for it.

Covering topics like learning the basics of HTML might be shunned some places, but due to the nature of being a helpful resource for both hosting experts and novices, I have a better and bigger chance to write for a wider range of subjects.

Now don’t get me wrong – I highly doubt I am a really huge factor either way for it’s slowly growing success, I am just happy to be along for the ride and helping people who need it.

Lunarpages customer or not, I would highly suggest subscribing to the RSS feed for Lunartics and if you have any feedback, suggestions, thoughts or anything else – you know me I am an open book and easy to get a hold of.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

Always willing to try a new thing, if you have not noticed lately we have had a number of great guest postings here on Mitchelaneous. From copywriting to Ubuntu – I think it has been nice to see a few new posts from another opinion here on the web site. Apparently so do you – because the number of page views over the past few weeks has gone up.

Want to get a few guest writers on your own web site? Here is something to keep in mind.

Make sure you go after your friends first. If anybody will be willing to help you out, it will be the people that know you best. After that – recruitment might move into the realm of blogs you like to read or people who like to read your blog. All I did was post the offer or deal out there, and I have been more than happy with the result.

So what will your carrot on the stick be for your writers? If your small offer them an author mention, such as “Article by Mitch Keeler”. If your a little bigger give them a bio and and a link back. The big boys can offer cash – but I won’t go down that route, cause the big boys to need little ol’ Mitch’s help.

Don’t offer the world, because the world is not yours to give. If your not one of the hottest spots on the Web, don’t pretend to be to impress would be writers on your web site. If they are interested let them know your popularity level and always remember that they are the ones doing you a favor – not the other way around. Say “thank you” and learn to be gracious.

Now I am new to the game so I am sure I’ll have more tips on the whole corner of the blogging world known as “guest writing” soon.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!

When it comes to the best of the best in blogging – you know all of the A-listers and the B-listers and maybe even some of the C-listers.

What about those underappreciated blogs out there that are just as good as the better known brands, but just haven’t had their time in the sun just yet?

Here are some of my favorite blogs I have subscribed to that you might not know about just yet.

+ Wilson’s Weblog
+ Is Your Mission Critical?
+ Life of an Internet Entrepreneur
+ Kyle’s Cove
+ CyberNet News
+ Clickfire Blog

Do me a favor. Try staying away from the overly popular Web sites and blogs for one day – and try finding your same news out there from an alternative source. I bet you might find you will find something you like out there in the blogging masses. Maybe you too can find a few diamonds on the rough?

Have any other good ones to share? Go ahead, try to make me fill up my RSS reader – I dare ya. No wait, I double blog dare ya to.

Facebook Fan Page Come join the fun on the Mitchelaneous Facebook Fan Page!
