Mega Man 9’s Plug Man Desktop Icon

Plug Man is just a little silly.  Seems like he would be one of the rejected Mega Man villains more so than a real one.  Before turning bad, he was a line inspection robot at a television set factory. Oh did I mention he is pink?  Don’t tell him that though, turns out he sees everything as a black and white I Love Lucy episode… of destruction!

Mega Man 9’s Galaxy Man Desktop Icon

Is he a Robot Master from Mega Man 9 or a walking UFO?  Galaxy Man is an assistant robot at a space laboratory. He has a brain that can instantly perform calculations of rocket trajectories.  That was until he turned bad.  Now he’s a trippy boss with a black hole type special attack.

Mega Man 9’s Hornet Man Desktop Icon

I guess, Bee Hive Chest Man would have seemed a little silly, hu?  Hornet Man (from Mega Man 9) is yet another one of the bosses I have yet to see, cause his level is insanely difficult.  I do like it though, due to the garden look.  Just kind of comes out of no where, as far as style goes – and I like that.  Make Hornet Man the robot master of your desktop with this awesome icon.

Mega Man 9’s Concrete Man Desktop Icon

He is heavy, orange and as far from a Village People construction worker knock-off as you can get.  Concrete Man, from the new Mega Man 9, is your standard villain.  He’s big, powerful and doesn’t look too happy.  Now you can add him to your own desktop with my latest creation, the Concrete Man desktop icon!

Zelda Fans? Here is Your Own Personal Triforce Icon!

I have been a big fan of The Legend of Zelda series of video games for a long time, but could not for the life of me find and nice desktop icon of the Triforce.  For those of you who have no clue what I am talking about, Wikipedia comes to the rescue:

The Triforce consists of three distinct entities represented by the three smaller triangles, each of which is also referred to as a Triforce when considered individually. The triforce has also been known to exist somewhere in the southern hemisphere of the globe, in human form. It is speculated that the identity of the triforce share the initials DJC however these speculations have never been truly verified. The triangles are referred to as the Triforce of Power, the Triforce of Wisdom, and the Triforce of Courage.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I decided to create my own Triforce icon.

WWE’s Maria Kanellis Desktop Icon

Playing around with creating desktop icons for my Windows Vista PC, I was using this picture as a kind of test to see what I could do.  Looked good to me (come on, it is Maria after all), so I thought I would release it out to all of you.  Can you tell which icon stands out more?

Playing with Prism Again

Prism Rocks! Prism, Mozilla’s answer for bringing the web in as desktop applications, continues to amaze me.  I just downloaded the newest release,  and it has a few new features worth checking out.  They have an extension for one, that works with Firefox 3 so that you can quickly split out web applications from Firefox without the need to manage a separate Prism application.  You can convert to a Prism powered application right there in Firefox.

You can also pick an icon to represent the web site or Prism application you are setting it up as.  By default it searches for the favicon, but you can edit it to go to any image.  That image will become the desktop icon for it.  The Fluid Flickr group had a lot of nice icon examples you could use too. (thanks to TwisterMc for that jewel)

To help with performance, each Prism app also runs in it’s own profile:

Prism now places each web app into its own process/profile so they don’t interfere with each other, which also makes it possible to install a web app twice and use it simultaneously with two different user accounts.

Personally Prism really excites me a lot and if this is still the beta form of the project, I can’t imagine the goodies waiting for me in the final release.

Is Your Desktop Naked?

Well, mine is. Working with an empty desktop can make managing your work a lot easier. For me, all the folders and paths I need are right inside of the start menu. From there I can get to my documents, music, photos and more.

Mitch’s Empty Desktop

With a clean desktop I have more room to work. Now for designers you could see this coming in handy because they would have plenty of place to work on multiple images, files and folders and have them all saved to the desktop.

With my podcast – I do much of the same. I keep all the different segments I have recorded save temporarily to to desktop so that way I have them handy when I need them. That way when I finish my job or project I can just hit Ctrl + A then move them over to a new folder if I need to keep them or hit delete if I want to toss them away.

How about you? How naked is your desktop or have you tried it with a naked desktop? For me it is one of my easy productivity techniques that keep me sane.
