Why Learning CSS is Good for You

Everybody and their grandmother have at least seen one of those semi-anoying Apple “Why I switched” advertisements before. It usually shows some drab person standing in front of a pale background blabbering on about why PC’s sucked till they found the joy of Apple computers.Well, I recently switched, but it wasn’t from my trusty HP Pavilion to a Mac, oh no. I recently jumped into the world of Cascading Style Sheets, or better known as CSS.

Do not get me wrong, I have been working with HTML codding for the past five or six years. Doing each layout on each page manually, calling up the font colors sizes and text over and over again became tedious at best.

The bad thing about plain old HTML codding is that you end up with really large file sizes for your web pages. Larger file sizes lead to slower download times, which leads to unhappy visitors for your web site. Learning about CSS will help you reduce the clutter.

To start, lets define CSS. A Cascading Style Sheet is a string of data or code that sits internally or externally on your server that will tell your pages how to format certain parts of your website. Continue Reading →

Simpblue – Free WordPress Theme!

Update: Test Drive Simpblue at WPThemesFree.com!

My weekend project this week was to finally sit down and create my own original WordPress theme. Here are the results…

simpbluesmall.jpg

Hope it is something you can all enjoy and get something out of. I wanted to create a theme that would both look good by itself but could also easily be customizable too. I think Simpblue does both of those jobs very well.

+ Download the Simpblue WordPress Theme! (.zip)

Only thing that I ask is that you keep my design credit (and link) at the bottom in one way, shape or form.

As this is my very first WordPress theme that I have created I would appreciate any feedback you have. Feel free to leave a comment or drop me an e-mail at mitch@mitchkeeler.com. Happy blogging!

Free Mini Icons for Webmasters

Free Mini IconsNeed to spruce up your web site with a nicer graphical interface? Now you could hunt for an icon designer or do it yourself – but why do that work when I have something I found that you can use for free.

The Mini Pixel Icon collection is an awesome group (Over 320!) of icons that would look perfect on any web site out there today. Of course, if you wish to use – you must follow the creator’s rules:

  • You may NOT resell or distribute these icons.
  • If you use more than 10 icons on your site or software, you must post a link back to www.ndesign-studio.com. If you do not want to post a link back, please read the license information below.

Not a big price to pay, you should be giving credit where credit is due anyways. If you really want to use them link free – check out the license information. You can do so for around $30.
