It is not often you can mix funny with web hosting.  Thanks to the latest issues of Ping! Zine, I was turned onto a new comic that covers the web development side of things Web of Pain.  Browsing through the archives on their web site, I had a lot of fun.  This one still sticks out as my favorite thus far…

Mitchelaneous Theme Tweak Up

Yesterday I spend a little time playing around with my WordPress theme here, looking at adding widgets to themes that didn’t come “pre-designed” with them in mind.  Thankfully for people like me Automattic has a great tutorial on how to get this done.  Along with adding a few more features, support for gravatars and a third column I promise this version of the layout has 10% more awesomeness.

Make Your Text Do Funny Things

The CSS Text Wrapper is probably the coolest thing I have seen when it comes to what you can do with text on a web page.  Then again… how many things have we seen?

css-line-wrapper

This tool makes it easy to wrap your text on a web page around in new and different ways.  No more rectangle blocks!  You can make text wrap around curves, zig-zags, or whatever you want.  To get started, all you have to do is use the wizard on their web site.  The output will be saved as Javascript, XHTML w/ Classes, or Inline CSS/XHTML.

Make FTP Listings in the Browser Better Looking

When looking at your basic FTP file listing in a browser, it can be a ‘bit on the dull and boring side.  Why not spice that up with a custom user style?  If you have Stylish for Firefox installed – and pick up the “FTP pages were awful” style you could even make them look this pretty…

210_after

No more ugly black and white boring listings for me, I like this much better.  Not only does it look better but it is also much more functional too.

CushyCMS = Only the Fun Parts of Content Management

The main problem with content management systems (or sometimes referred to as CMS) is that many people find them complicated, too technical and way over their head.  If your searching for an “every man” way of managing your content take a look at CushyCMS. A hosted CMS solution.

Hosted by them and edited on their servers, you can quickly create your content, with no worry about installing software or learning any programming languages. They say that your final product will be a standards compliant (and search engine friendly) masterpiece that can not be beat.

CushyCMS promises to be the easiest way to get a web site up in no time at all. I do have to say it is an interesting idea (and I wish them all the best). Curious to see how many people will turn to these types of solutions over your normal web hosting account and Joomla install for example?

Changed Mitchelaneous.com a ‘bit. You like? Still not done yet with all of the editing I would like to do – but I’d like to take a few hours off from working on it to get some feedback if you have any.

Mitchelaneous.com Screenshot

Also if there is anything you would like to see where that isn’t here already – leave a comment and let me know. I’ll be taking in all the feedback shortly and hopefully once all is said and done will have a finished product that all will enjoy.

Free Icon Downloads at IconsPedia

There are a lot of icon resources out there, but not many that make their name on being a free resource for all to use. That is what IconsPedia wants to bring to the designers’ work bench.

Free Icons with IconsPedia

Have have tons of png icon packs ready for download and use. If the icons are published under a certain license (such as free to use, for personal use only) then they should say so on that icon package’s download page.
