Super Mario (and Luigi) Widescreen Wallpaper

Seeking out some new desktop decorations, I ran across a couple of crazy plumbers on the Web.  Perhaps one would be good for the laptop while the other on the desktop PC?  Here are a couple of awesome Super Mario Bros wallpapers…

Make FTP Listings in the Browser Better Looking

When looking at your basic FTP file listing in a browser, it can be a ‘bit on the dull and boring side.  Why not spice that up with a custom user style?  If you have Stylish for Firefox installed – and pick up the “FTP pages were awful” style you could even make them look this pretty…

210_after

No more ugly black and white boring listings for me, I like this much better.  Not only does it look better but it is also much more functional too.

Open Google Notebook in Firefox Sidebar

I like using Google’s Notebook feature but the extension they give you is a little lacking. I think it is too small and doesn’t allow me to open and shut it very quickly. What’s the solution? Well I took the Google personalized homepage widget for Google Notebook and added it to the sidebar of Firefox.

Google Notebook in Firefox Sidebar

This is much like the “Add Google Talk to the Firefox Sidebar” trick that was so popular a few weeks back.

  1. Create a new bookmark (right-click and select “Bookmark this link…”) for this address:

    http://www.google.com/notebook/ig?hl=__MSG_locale__

  2. Right-click on that bookmark and select “Properties”.
  3. Check the box that says, “Load this bookmark in sidebar” and you are good to go! It isn’t exactly rocket science so everybody should be able to enjoy this one.

Now you have a full note taking application to work with in your sidebar and it beats that tiny default extension Google provides you any day of the week.

Don’t miss out on any more geek candy!

Free Wallpaper Remix

Maybe I have a short attention span. Maybe I have an eye for creativity. I like to customize my computer’s interface.

No matter if it has to do with skins, wallpaper, icons or visual styles for Windows XP – I like to tackle it all. There are so many different things out there to choose from – and I am pretty good at picking out the best of the best – so sit back and enjoy.

Depending on how well this first post does, I might have to do more roundups of desktop customization tools. Here are some of my recent favorite wallpapers.

Bloom Another Bliss Chains
Magic Lantern Melons Sleepless

Have another nice looking wallpaper (or any other favorite desktop customization) I might have missed? Leave me a comment about it or E-mail me the link!

Working With WordPress

I enjoy installing WordPress for people. Now I will leave it up to you to decide if that is really cool or really sad. Nevertheless, it provides a neat feeling. Maybe I get a buzz from knowing that this Web site could be the next big thing. Maybe I just like helping folks out. What people do not realize though is getting up and going with a WordPress blog is not that hard at all. Once you get the hang of it, you can get yourself up and going with a great looking Web site in under an hour.

Now the first thing you are going to want to do is visit WordPress.org and download the script itself. Personally, I find downloading the .zip version works best for me – but others might like the .tar.gz version as well. Once you get that downloaded onto your computer, you need to un-compress it and decide where you are going to put it.

Changing Visual Styles in Windows XP

A couple of times in the past I have posted about visual styles I have found on the Web that I like.

Every time that I do I get an E-mail from somebody or a comment asking how I can do it. By default, the Microsoft peeps usually don’t like for you to install “unsigned” themes. That is the reason why you have been either stuck in the Windows 2000 interface or the Fisher Price “Luna” theme.

Well, while doing some random surfing on the Web during my holiday break I happened to run across a nice guide on how to use visual styles that puts it in a way that I never could. Check it out – and then check out some of my visual style suggestions to get yourself started on making Windows XP look a little better.
