Hong Kong Explains the Internet’s Tubes

Need a totally off the wall and oddball way of explaining bandwidth to your friends?  This video (from what I guess is a commercial for Internet access from Hong Kong) should do the job.

If you don’t find that funny, you don’t deserve to laugh! (via HostingBookmarks.com)

TV Downloads Not Perfect Yet

The ShieldOh crap, I missed The Shield!

That was my thought Wednesday morning while working. Now when you miss a TV show there are several ways you can go to see it again. I could have searched for a rerun, but that would take too long. I haven’t ever downloaded any TV shows via one of the many services out there - so I thought this would be a perfect chance to try it out.

My first thought was to go to iTunes to download it. I checked, and it was available. Where’s the problem? I don’t want to keep it on my computer, and I want to be able to re-download it. There does the iTunes idea out the Window.

Next I remembered Amazon’s Unbox service. I found The Shield listed, but they still did not have Tuesday night’s episode.

There is always the torrent way - finding a seed for it somewhere, but that was ridiculously slow. Plus, if I can get a good quality video and get it fast, I don’t mind paying for it.

My last ditch effort paid off though. I found Direct2Drive after doing a little searching, and they had what I needed. Whoo hoo! Other than needing Internet Explorer to get it going (yuck) it was not a bad experience at all.

Add Mirrors to Digg.com

diggmirrors.gifAs many of us do, I get tired of finding a story on Digg, get excited about reading it, and then finding out the Web page has already gone down due to traffic. Every so often, via the comments on Digg you can find mirror links, but I am tired of waiting.

That is why I plugged the Digg - add mirrors script into my Greasemonkey extension for Firefox. It adds a nice small box of mirrors to the side of the link on Digg. From here, if a link is down, I can still get to the content.
