Hope you enjoyed, and if there is something you’d like to see more of or less of coming into November, please let me know.

Kubuntu – linux for this human being

Typing this as, well, I type I can tell you I am a Kubuntu user.  Over the past few weeks, I have been trying to get it just the way I want it.  Was I successful?  Well as somebody who has used just Windows all his life, it wasn’t easy – but it is now done.

Firefox is installed, Pidgin is up and running, so I now know I can at least do my day-to-day work done on here.

What is the Most Frustrating Thing About Kubuntu?

Well for me, my cries are pretty anal.  I don’t like that windows do not remember their locations when you close and reopen them.  Instead they just rotate corners they launch from.  I guess this will take some getting used to.

What do I like the most about Kubuntu?

The biggest positive is hard to put my finger on.  I like the basic look and feel of it, even more so than I liked Ubuntu.  Ubuntu just never felt right to me when using it, but Kubuntu does the trick.  Guess that makes me a fan of KDE over Gnome?  Hope that is right, getting the “lingo” down is another challenge for another post.

Feel like trying a new OS?  So if you have looked the other way with Linux distros in the past, give Kubuntu a shot.

  Captain N: The Game Master

This has to be one of the greatest Saturday morning cartoons ever… at least for me.

Captain N: The Game Master

Recently picked up the DVD collection of Captain N: The Game Master.  Now many of you probably don’t remember it, but I sure do.  I was around 7 or 8 years old when it was in it’s first run and is one the the few Saturday morning cartoons I still have an itch to watch even today.

Here is a pretty good summary of the plot of the show:

The premise of the show concerns average California teen and Nintendo fan Kevin Keene and his faithful dog Lucky, who are both pulled into their game system to Videoland, an animated world populated by heroes and villains from various Nintendo games. There, Kevin must assist the N Team–a group formed by Princess Lana, Icarus (from “Kid Icarus”), Simon Belmont (from “Castlevania”) and Mega Man (from the game of the same name)–in defeating Mother Brain (from “Metroid”) and her henchmen from conquering Videoland.

Still doesn’t sound familiar?  Here’s the intro (the music still gets stuck in my head to this day) to the show:

If you can put aside all the storylines that don’t exactly match up with video game history, it is still a fun show to look back on.  I also stick by the same thing that I thought way back in 1989 – Mother Brain sounds like a drag queen.

Learn to Fight with a Walking Stick

BW2-1_sm Time you learned how to defend yourself, isn’t it?  The only catch this time around is you must have a walking stick with you at all times.  Ok, so maybe we don’t all do that anymore but after reading this article on the issue I am looking at the idea of bringing it back into style!  Here is some more on the topic:

It will be seen that the figure on the right is exposing his body in order to insure his adversary attacking him there, and to be prepared with an immediate defence.

Directly the man with the alpenstock attempts to bayonette him, he diverts the blow by turning sideways, and making a circular downward cut, which hits the alpenstock and causes it to glide slightly upwards and sideways — a guard known in sword play as "Septime envelopé." The moment the blow has been diverted, the man with the stick must seize the alpenstock with his left hand, and, stepping in, strike his assailant a blow across the face.

At least you can say you had an entertaining start to your week now.

Easily Add Related Posts to WordPress Install?

best-related-posts The WordPress Related Posts plugin might be the best of the bunch.  I have added this to a few of my various projects and online homes and I have to say I am really impressed that all you do is pretty much install, fill in some options and you are done.

Once activated, this plugin will automatically slip related links after all of your stories, articles and posts on your WordPress powered blog.

To your right here you can see what the admin interface looks like for the plugin.  Pretty simple stuff.  If you wish it will also add related posts to your RSS feed too.

If you want a simple way to keep people on your web site a little longer – related links to other stories they might be interested in is one of the best ways to do it.  This WordPress Releated Posts plugin is hands down the easiest of the many out there that do this sort of thing to get up and running.  On the web page for it, it says it is only for WordPress 2.3, but it has given me no problems at all on WordPress 2.5.

SEO: The Art and Science of the Search Engines

Search Engine TipsWhile there are many approaches to Search Engine Optimization one can take, I have found that a few simple tips can help you keep your site ranking well with minimal effort. I will only focus on SEO related to your page structure and content in this article, for brevity.

Topic specific content: Place content on pages that is uniform. For instance, if you are a web host, create a full page just talking about dedicated hosting. This gives the specific page an edge over other companies who discuss all of their plans on one page (because of your higher percentage of topic-specific keywords). Continue Reading →

Backlash 2007 Predictions

Backlash 2007Well with my Wrestlemania 23 predictions I scored a six out of seven, so I thought I would give it another shot and see how good I am at predicting the winners and losers for this Sunday’s Backlash pay-per-view.

WWE Women’s Championship – Melina vs Mickie James – Not sure about this one, I think they will keep Melina the champ for a while longer though. Mickie James needs to go back to being a psycho, she’s just too generic right now.

U.S. Championship – MVP vs Chris Benoit – Chris Benoit will take the win here, don’t really watch Smackdown that much so don’t know what has been going on between them. Something about MVP just rubs me the wrong way though.

Tag Team Championship – Cade & Murdoch vs The Hardys – I am going out on a limb and saying that Cade and.. no, wait I just can’t do it. The Hardys will take the win, but I’d like to see Cade and Murdoch get a push.

World Championship – Batista vs Undertaker – The Undertaker will take the win here just because I don’t want him to drop the title yet. I say keep it on him at least till Summerslam. After that, I’d be ok with him doing something else.

ECW Championship – Shane, Vince & Umaga vs Bobby Lashley – This is another “Ehh” kind of match. Not really excited either way – but I do think Umaga will take the win, just to keep the feud going for a while longer.

WWE Championship – Randy Orton v. Edge v. Shawn Michales v. John Cena – I would like for Shawn Michales or Edge to win, but my gut says John Cena will win again and I’ll give out a big yawn in excitement over seeing that for the thousandth time.

Finding Wrestling Matches on YouTube

YouTubeEvery so often, I run into a little ‘bit of time where I have nothing else to do. So where do I turn for some entertainment? Like everybody else I start typing in random phrases into YouTube and watch some uploaded content. It looks like there are a lot of wrestling matches and segments up and running on YouTube right now. Now searching for “WWE” or “WWF” might turn up much – but try typing in a wrestler’s name.

Here is a good result I got for searching for (one of my all time favorites) Chris Jericho. It is his WWE debut on RAW.

That’s not all. After searching for “WWE Ashley” I found this short video of Ashley Massaro unrevealing her “entertaining” magazine cover. ;)

You can find a lot of rare content as well. Try searching for NJPW and you will get a load of classic New Japan Pro Wrestling matches. Now how legal is all of this?

I am sure lawyers and lawsuits will get involved eventually, so enjoy it while it lasts.
