Have You Simply Failed?

Funny Failures Think you have it tough?  You ain’t got it tough.  The people who have it tough are on SimplyFailed.com.  This is an entire web site dedicated to the idea of not succeeding.  You can become a fan of them via Facebook, Follow them via Twitter, read through the stories or post your own.

Here are just a few of my favorite “fails” from the web site:

  • Fail is when you dress up as gangster and think you run the streets. The sad part is that you live in the suburbs in a nice house and your dads an engineer & mom’s a doctor.
  • Fail is when your sitting in a class room and your teacher talks to you for 5 minutes , showing you the linux operating system….after 5 mins you up your hand and ask “Is that windows vista?”
  • Fail is when an employee writes how much she hates work on Twitter and fails to notice that anyone can read those tweets and her boss (Me) is following her.

Top 10 Horror Movie Villains

Since it is October, time to look at even more things that go bump in the night.  Growing up in the 80s to early 90s era, I had a lot of great horror villains to fighting me.  We might not have had Dracula or Frankenstein, but we did have Freddy and Jason.  So, to keep with the holiday spirit of the month, I decided to take a look at my top 10 horror villains of all time.

10. Jigsaw and Billy (yes, that is the puppet’s name) from SAW

Do Not Attempt to Adjust the Picture

Recently, I’ve spent more than my fair share of time turning away from the TV and looking towards the Web for entertainment.  Now, I know how horribly the sounds like a Web 2.0 cliche, but before you search for your proverbial mallet to whack my with first let me show you what it is I’ve been watching.

Cinemassacre Productions

Cinemassacre.com Web Videos

I got my first taste of the awesome content that Cinemassacre delivers by finding (and then later watching) a few episodes of the Angry Video Game Nerd.  By far, it is probably my favorite series from the web site – but some of the miscellaneous content like Board James and You Know Whats Bull Sh*t is just as funny and entertaining to watch.

Be sure to watch…

ScrewAttack

ScrewAttack.com Web Videos

How could a web site named after the famous Metroid attack go wrong?  It can’t.  Looking at both new and old school games, ScrewAttack has your classic reviews, top ten lists and even submissions from their fans that make it onto the site.  If you’ve grown up as an 80’s child, and still have a love for both new and old games – this site is definitely one worth checking out.

Be sure to watch…

That Guy with Glasses

ThatGuyWithGlasses.com Web Videos

This is the most recent one I have stumbled upon and started watching.  Once again, we kind of go to all of our loves of watching something old, with the most popular series from the site being the Nostalgia Critic.  The entire web sit though is filled with videos that are well thought out, well produced and will leave you wanting to watch more.

Be sure to watch…

Might also be a good idea for me to point out that not all of these are family friendly “G” rated entertainment, so please keep that in mind.

Find Your Inter(net)-icon and Socialize It

I have spent some time on finding the right icon and picture for me to use across all the social networks that I am apart of.  Some people might thing it is silly to spend any time on this, however I think it is important to use a graphic that people can easily associate with you.

For example, look at Chris Pirillo and his icon.  If you are a follower of him and what he does, you know when you see this icon:

Chris's Head as an Icon   Chris's Head as... Well, a Head!

That he is associated with it.  No matter if you follow him on his web site, his Twitter page, his Facebook page, you know to associate that with him.  Others have done this too.  BlueFur.com, a Canadian based web host uses their blue monster as their Twitter icon too.

BlueFur.com's Web Site  BlueFur.com's Twitter Page and Icon

Here are a few more tips about the process that you might find useful:

  • Pick something that is unique about yourself or your company
  • Try to use something that is easily recognizable
  • Don’t be afraid to have a little fun with it

With that said, here is what I have currently decided to go with…

My New Social Icon!

I had to update my look, since I cut my hair off – plus I threw my own favicons from my various site in for good measure.

So as you can see – you might want to give a little more thought when it comes to picking the right picture you want to use across all the web pages you wish to frequent, especially if you want to build a brand around your name or business.

John Hodgman Calls Obama a Nerd

Who knew C-SPAN could be so fun?  Daily Show correspondent and everybody’s favorite PC (from the Apple PC vs Mac ads) John Hodgman spoke at the 65th annual Radio & Television Correspondents’ Association Dinner with a really entertaining thesis on why Obama might be the first nerd president.

Got to love Obama’s Spock-ish calm, don’t you?

Atari Cartridge Turned into Wallet

This is beyond awesome…

I love the classic Atari 2600 games, mainly because with some of the old art they had on them, you can tell somebody spent a lot time on them.  Now you can get your favorite Atari cartridge as a neat (and really geeky) wallet.  You can buy the wallets yourself (although they are a little on the expensive side) from this store.

There Will Be Brawl

There Will Be Brawl

Not often do I find original content that I really like to watch or flock to like a giddy school girl, however every so often I find a diamond in the rough as far as the independent content being delivered out there.  That is where the web series There Will Be Brawl comes into play.

This dark, dramatic parody of Super Smash Bros Brawl is just fun to watch for any older Nintendo fans out there.  Yes, this web site does come with a warning that the series is not intended for anybody under the age of 17.

A new episode debuts the second Friday of every month over at The Escapist web site, which is where I found the videos in the first place, however you can also find out more about the cast and crew at ThereWillBeBrawl.com
