Make Gmail Style Change to Super Clean

Tired of the way Gmail looks?  You can give it a new super clean redesign, if you have Firefox and Greasemonkey installed.

As you can see, this changes the way Gmail looks from top to bottom.  I like the lighter colors and the more “clean” interface myself.  You can pick up the user script for it here:

Also, be sure to stay tuned on the Super Clean Gmail blog, so you get the latest updates on how the project is going, and when it has been updated:

Is it about time Google did a refresh of Gmail themselves?  I think so…

A Look Inside Hosting Bookmarks

hosting-bookmarks Since I am from the web hosting world and industry, HostingBookmarks.com is a favorite stop of mine.  It is a digg-like social news site for the web hosting elite.  At the helm of this project is Dimitar Avramov, the well known web hosting blogger.  I recently had the chance to pick his brain to take a deeper look at HostingBookmarks.com and some other projects of his.

What made you want to organize and create HostingBookmarks.com?

Let me first say “Thank you Mitch” for the opportunity to speak to one of the finest audiences in hosting industry – yours. So, what made me to create HB… well, to be honest I’ve seen an empty niche and asked myself “Why don’t you create a web site with reference to web hosting related content”. I had two options – to develop branded software or to use any Open source application. The first would take much time so I find Pligg used it to create Hosting Bookmarks. I maintain the web site much-more as a hobby than to profit from it.

How has the success been since your launch?

There aren’t too many people who are willing to contribute. There are five to ten people who are looking to bookmark quality content. Others try to spam or mostly to do promote own content which in most cases is far from web hosting. They get banned. Up to date the web site refers to more that 3,000 quality articles related to web hosting.

Geeking it Up (or yes I joined another network)

Maybe I am a sucker for trying new things?  Just got an invite to Chris Pirillo’s new project that is simply named Geeks.  You can kind of think of it as another Facebook or MySpace for the geekier people in life, no matter what type of geek you are.

Here is Chris explaining the basics about Geeks:

It is a cool idea, and I like it thus far.  We will see where it goes from here.  If you want to give it a shot, feel free to make friends with me.

Get Punched Out with Punch-Out Wallpaper

Found another Nintendo classic wallpaper, well worth sharing.  The one is based around the original NES classic Punch-Out.  Check it out:

punch-out

You can it this one as a 2560×1600 file or a 1024×768 file. Either way should fit most if not all desktops out there.  Never actually played Punch-Out till I got my Wii.  Got to say it is a fun game, no matter how old it is.

Bonus: Be sure to check out and download my Punch-Out Desktop Icons!

Awesome Metroid Wallpaper

You would be amazed with the stuff I find when I have nothing else better to do than randomly search around online.  Need an example?  Via this very cool small custom wallpaper site I found this awesome wallpaper version of the final boss battle from Super Metroid.

metroid-wallpaper

They have both a 1024×768 version and a 2560×1600 version for you to use.  (source link)

Looks like the web site where these were hosted went down, however I did find the high-res version and uploaded it here.

Also, found another copy of it here, just in case.

Makes me want to fire up my version of Super Metroid I have on my Wii right now.  I was a big fan of the SNES version too (couldn’t tell you how many times I played it all the way through).

Zero Suit Samus (and Regular Suit) Desktop Icons

metroid-icon-previews If I had to pick my top ten gaming franchises, Metroid would have to be only second to the Legend of Zelda series for me.  So, in tribute to that though (and the fact I wanted to play with creating some more desktop icons) here are both the classic Samus look (suited samus) and Zero Suit Samus icons for your enjoyment.

This time around I included both .png and .ico files (due to your suggestions last time around.)  Feel free to use them as you wish.  All that I ask is you subscribe to the feed!

The two icons are compatible with the following sizes:  256 x 256, 128 x 128, 64 x 64, 48 x 48, 32 x 32, 24 x 24, 16 x 16.  Enjoy, and let me know if you like ‘em or not.  Might make a few more.
