Go Plurk Yourself, Buddy!

plurkIt is official, I spend too much time checking Plurk.  This is why you should too!

The Rewards of Being a Good Plurker

The "rewards" feature of Plurk is very interesting too.  You can get a little star by your name if you achieve a certain goal.  Also, certain customizations (such as page styles) are not available to you until your Karma number has reached a certain point.

Go Out and Do Something Creative!

A great inspiration as well is the status messages you can pick from.  You have:

freestyle, loves, likes, shares, gives, hates, wants, wishes, has, will, asks, was, feels, thinks, says, and is

Speaking of inspiration, seeking that great conversation starter?

  • Messages of "good morning" seem to go over well with your following…
  • Random messages really do the trick, create snippets from your brain do wonders too.
  • You can’t forget the plugs for your own site content or interesting links you have found on the Web.
  • Plurk is much more social than the other status and micro-blogs out there.  Many more replies here and much more feedback to be had if you just ask.

Share Your Photos and Videos with Everybody!

You can share photos too, just make sure that link your posting ends with a .gif, .jpg or .png.  Plurk will automatically generate thumbnailed images for you and open them up inside of Plurk when somebody clicks on them.  The same is done for YouTube videos too.

What Makes Plurk So Different?

The timeline is what sets Plurk apart from the competitors.  This gives you a unique view of all the messages from your friend that may seem a little odd at first, but you quickly catch on.  You also have the option to view all the new message, or mark all messages as read.

Maybe it is just me, but Plurkers seem to be a lot more friendly too.  They are all looking for replies of their own, so they might be more willing to stop by your personal Plurk page and say, "Hello!".  Looking for a friend?  Feel free to click here and add me!

When push comes to shove, Plurk really is becoming a favorite stop for me (or several stops depending on the speed of the day) and I wish them the best of luck in the future.

"Special" Secret Paste in Windows Live Writer

It is amazing the keyboard combos you will run into when your fingers stumble over the keyboard trying to do something you didn’t even have in mind.  Much like me, I doubt you knew either that Windows Live Writer had a "special" paste mode?

To activate it, just press Ctrl+Shift+V.  Doing so will give you the option to remove all the HTML formatting but preserve the hyperlinks and images.  They also have a thinned HTML option which will preserve the font sizes and text alignments but strips out all the extra CSS beyond that point.  Quick tip for all you fellow Windows Live Writer lovers out there!

White Noise to Soothe Your Brain

Simply Noise is here to fill the void, fill it with a lot of white noise!  So what exactly is white noise and why might you need it?  According to Wikipedia white noise is…

White noise is a random signal (or process) with a flat power spectral density. In other words, the signal’s power spectral density has equal power in any band, at any centre frequency, having a given bandwidth. White noise is considered analogous to white light which contains all frequencies.

So that answers the what, now how about the why?  Here are some of the uses for white noise that are out there:white-noise-generator

  • Aid Sleep
  • Enhance Privacy
  • Block Distractions
  • Mask Tinnitus
  • Configure Audio Equipment
  • Soothe Migraines

Getting back to the web site, Simply Noise – all it does is give you an orb to slide back and forth to increase or decrease the white noise they provide.  What exactly is the noise they use?  Think of it as the static sound you here when there is a TV channel not coming in clearly.  All in all – this site does the job in a very simple way.  Maybe in the future they can have the white noise come up via a popup window?  That way if I needed it I could have it loaded up without having to keep the URL open 24/7.

Create Your Own Super Mario Tune!

ss1This is one of those programs you just happen to stumble upon but you know you have to at least give it a shot.  Mario Paint Composer allows you to create your own Nintendo inspired tune using the old SNES Mario Paint-ish layout.  Even if you don’t have a musical skill in your entire body, it is fun just to drag and drop things onto the board and then hit play.

It is both Mac and Windows friendly too.  Just download, unzip and you’ll be off on your own music creating adventure.  Here is an example video I found via the ‘ol YouTube:

Put Plurk in Your Firefox Sidebar

plurk-in-sidebar As  I mentioned yesterday, Plurk is quickly becoming my favorite miro-blogging/status provider out there.  It is unique, creative and doesn’t go down every few hours (hear that Twitter?).  How would you like to be able to keep up with your plurking in your Firefox sidebar?  Here is how you can get it done.

Visit this handy Plurk URL here:

http://www.plurk.com/m

Bookmark it (or drag and drop it onto your links bar).  Then right-click it, and select “Properties”.  From here, check the box next to “Load this bookmark in the sidebar”, then save your changes and you are done.

Now you have instant Plurk access no matter what web page you might be on.

Need a friend on Plurk? Feel free to add me! I feel like you all are nearly family anyways!

Update – Thanks to TwisterMC you can get a Firefox add-on that does the same thing, with a few other extra perks.

Ping.fm Makes Being Social Easier

Thanks to Ping.fm I can finally be apart of more of these social sites without jumping here and there every time I want to update something.  The best way to describe it is that it is a tool that just brings it all together.  You can do status updates, blog updates, or micro-blog updates depending on the tools you are using it with.

Currently, here are the places you can follow me:

Bebo, Facebook, Hi5, LinkedIn, LiveJournal, Mashable, MySpace, Plurk, Pownce, Tumblr, and of course everybody’s favorite red headed step child Twitter.

Of course I’m not just looking for multiple avenues to plug and market myself, I’ve also been just sharing random Mitch-like nuggets of wisdom and random things that pop into my head that I just need to get out during the day.

Ping.fm is my new best friend on this social Web we live on today.
