Bored? Try Your Hand at Scribbls!

Have a little too much time on your hands this weekend?  I’ve got a web site that is filled to the brim with silliness that I think anybody could get a kick out of.  The Web site is Scribbls, and the purpose is to help put together two other drawing to make a new one.

here are a couple of examples:

bread-october

 platypus

Just as fair warning, some of the combinations get rather adult in nature – but it is all in good fun from what I can see thus far.  As with anything else these days, you can also vote for the best ones too – just in case your not feeling very artistic.  If anything can be said about Scribbls is that it is unique, which is hard to find these days.

Ken and Ryu Street Fighting on Your Desktop

How does that sound?  Personally, I was more of a Ryu fan than a fan of Ken.  Ken just never did anything for me.  Then again, I think M. Bison could whoop up on both of them.  My earliest childhood memories of Street Fighter actually have to do with me thinking the M. in M. Bison stood for Mitch.  Why?  Well my name is Mitch and I just thought it would be cool… what can I say?  I was easily amused at that age.  Oh yeah, here are some Street Fighter IV icons!

If you like these, be sure to check out the other video game based icons in Th3-ProphetMan’s collection.  From GTA IV to Gears of War I am sure you’ll find a few more to enjoy.

The Majority of People Suck at Copywriting

As a writer, going out and reading other people’s content out there from time to time is enough to make me want to run off to a deserted island never to be heard or seen from again.  Now I am far from perfect, but time after time I see the same offenders when it comes to copy and headline writing.  Need some examples?

Networking Junkies – You know the type.  They are those people who join every single social network out there, and all they have on their page is enlarged Hanna Montana fan-made glitter signs and copy that reads, “THIZ is MY MY MYSAPCE DuDeZ!  CoMES OUT AND LetS DO THE PARTY! WHOOOO!”

Firefox Add-ons – Just when you think you have found the Firefox extension that will solve all your problems, you go to read more about it and the description goes something like this…

“This tool lets you copy the video from the Youtubez.”

Come on, you spent month after month working on this great Firefox add-on and the only thing you can give me as the user, trying to sell me on your download is two sentences?

Carbon Copy Web Hosts – A good majority of the copy on web hosts’ web pages are just stolen from the guy down the street.  Copy and paste is too easy of a task for these guys, and come on, what do you expect?  They are trying to keep the three customers they have happy who happened to mistake them for somebody important.

Social News Headlines – For an example on this one, go to Digg.com and check out any headline on the page.  Enough said.  Ok, that in itself if the main problem here.  Not only do they give us a crappy headline, then they try to sell us on the point that their headline did all the work.  Come on diggeruzer987, the headline does not say it all!

So do you agree with me yet?  If you can think of anymore copyrighting offenders please feel free to let us all know in the comments.

How to Search Multiple Video Sites with One Tool

logo With the many video search helpers out there, it is hard to find one that works and works well.  That is where VideoFetcher comes into play.  Using a search box, an iframe and a little imagination they have come up with a good way to search multiple video hosting sources for material.

Now they don’t win any points for being the best looking service, the design is a ‘bit ugly and bland.  The concept though, of having just about every search provider for video on the left and your results on the right is one that works.

You can also add them to your search bar too in the browser to have easy access to the searching.  VideoFetcher is worth a shot if your find yourself browsing around the video sites in your spare time.

Crazy Storm Aftermath, I’m Back Online!

Hello civilized world!  Since Thursday, I have been without power due to the big storms that crossed north Texas and Oklahoma that night.  Best report I have heard thus far was 80 mph winds but I have a feeling it was a lot more than that.

Also with the way things were torn up around here, I wouldn’t be surprised to find out there was some tornadic activity that night as well.  Last night I finally got power back here, so I am slowly getting caught up with all that I missed out on.  Here are a few photos of the damages:

Everybody around here is OK which is the most important thing, but I might be cutting down and carrying off limbs and trees for a month or so trying to get the outside back to normal.

Faster Web Site Screenshot Capturing

WebSite_SnapshotsAs a quick and easy way to grab a screenshot of any web site out there, SnapCasa does a pretty good job.

There are several tools out there that get the job done so the secret to being successful at this it to be quick.  SnapCasa passes thus far in that regard.

Here is a little more about the service from those who developed it:

Take web page snapshots and website thumbnails of any site with SnapCasa. Place a simple img tag in your HTML page and our website thumbnail generator will provide a snapshot for you. Increase site traffic and click-through rate by including snapshots on your website.

Where most of these sites fall apart is that they are slower than me hitting the “print screen” button and then cropping the image and resizing myself.  I am happy to say that SnapCasa does not fall victim to that issue.

They do an awesome job thus far and hopefully (unlike some others out there) will continue to get better over time.  SnapCasa is my new home for getting a faster web site screenshot.
