River City Ransom is a Blast

rcrbox Looking for a new virtual console game to play on the Wii, I downloaded and tried out River City Ransom.  After hearing all over the Web that this game was an awesome old school NES release, I fell for the hype and gave it a shot.  I have to say I am now joining the fan boys in saying that this game is a lot of fun.  Never played it before yesterday (I missed most of the first generation of Nintendo) but I was happy my five dollars was well spent.

Pretty much it is a game like Final Fight, but with RPG elements built into it.  So you can buy items and power ups to make yourself stronger – but the game is all based around a side scrolling punch, kick and throw way of thinking.

If your needing help, found this large map (looks as if it was scanned in from an old magazine article).  Final thoughts are that the whole thing reminds me of a bad 80’s movie – but in a good way.

He might not be everybody’s favorite new Punch-Out character.  Love the Disco Kid or hate him, you do have to agree with me it is always fun to give him a glove to the mouth via Punch-Out for the Wii.
