2 Hosting Podcasts, 1 Wacky Hosting Guy

Can I talk you in to a deal? I promise to deliver you two web hosting podcasts you can be both informed and educated by and all I ask for in return, is that you listen to them, enjoy them and maybe pass them along to a friend or two. That’s not asking too much – is it?

+ Interview With a Host Searcher – Episode 113

On this podcast I was thrilled to get to have a sit down chat with Host Search’s Web Editor John Hughes. Because of the Web Hosting Show, I have known John for a few years as one of the public voices and go to guys for Host Search. He really is one of the “good guys” in the hosting industry.

+ Who Hosts That Site? – Episode 114

  • Check Out a Free Resource to Find Out Who’s Hosting Your Favorite Web Sites on each of the Internets
  • Should Web Hosts Start an Anti-Popup Policy?
  • Mitch Starts His “One Midget Joke Per Podcast” Policy
  • One Dump Promises To Give You Another Reliable (and free) File Hosting Solution

Two free hosting podcasts to be entertained by all done by just one wild and wacky web hosting guru. Love and care is in there, but I left out the puppy dog tails. Come on, puppy dog tails are what boys are made of – not podcasts, silly.

4 Favorite Totally Random Feeds

Feed IconI was just clearing out some of my feeds that I am subscribed to – and thought now would be as good of a time as any to list some of my favorite feeds that I subscribe do.

Weblog Tool Collection – Loads of good WordPress news, themes and plugins all in one spot. [RSS Feed]

Unclutterer – Unclutterer.com is a site on personal organization, simple living, and getting rid of clutter. [RSS Feed]

NoDQ.com – This is one of the many pro wrestling (WWE, TNA, MMA) news and rumor web sites out there. Doesn’t have a feed, so I created this one with FeedYes.com. [RSS Feed]

Lorelle on WordPress – Yet another good WordPress and just general writing tips blog that I get a lot of use and information out of. [RSS Feed]

Now back to deleting some of the feeds out of Google Reader I don’t like as much as the ones above. :)

Finding PSP Playable Demos

PSP Needs Love Too!Since I got my Nintendo DS I really haven’t given my PlayStation Portable much attention. Poor PSP – I am deeply sorry. Now that I am “in between” games – I figured I might go out and see what playable demos are out there to kill some time before I decide on the next game and game system I’m going to tackle.

Thankfully the folks behind PSPFanboy.com have put together a running list of demos to check out and enjoy. Now I just have to find the time to download the interesting ones and actually play them.

Mitch Got Pownced

Mitch Got Pownced! No I didn’t say pantsed – I said Pownced! Even though I only have one friend thus far via the new service, I have to say I am pretty impressed.

It seems to deliver a ‘bit more than some of the other “twitter-like” services out there and if it picks up in popularity I could see myself maybe even becoming a paid member.

Come visit me and add me as a friend! Be my buddy!

http://pownce.com/mitchkeeler

Pownce has all of the neat features to become a winner, now all it needs is a user base to take advantage of it. Not really much else to say about it because I really need some friends added before I can give it a hearty review. Are you on there? If so feel free to add me as an amigo, buddy and/or friend.

WWE 24/7 Online – Bigger Video

WWE 24/7 Online

When WWE launched their video on demand service (WWE 24/7 Online) via the Web I was pretty excited. Hey, I’m a huge wrestling fan and I like watching old classic matches. Unfortunately though they lost my attention due to my lack of free time and the little tiny videos they offered to stream over the Internet.

Well looks like they have started to listen to some feedback – because they are now offering 750K streams of all the content they have uploaded. Thanks to this, I might have to renew my yearly subscription because the video quality with the bigger stream is much better in my opinion.

TheFirefox.net Fraud and Abuse

TheFirefox.net - Pain in the RearIn my efforts to investigate this fraud issue, I tried to contact thefirefox.net’s web host – but have yet to get one reply back from them yet.

WebUnited.com have the proverbial skirt that these guys are hiding under. Besides a few press releases I couldn’t really find much information on or about the company. I put in a help desk ticket on their support system, but since wasn’t e-mailed a notice saying something to the effect of, “this is an automated message, you will be replied to in 24-48 hours” it probably doesn’t even work.

Looks like TheFirefox.net isn’t the only web site they are running this scam with. DomainTools.com shows at least 6 other domains hosted on this sever that look to also be fraud/abuse related accounts.

If anything else comes up, I’ll keep you updated.

Dropped from Google

Yeah a few web sites of mine have been dropped from Google, Yahoo, MSN and more thanks to a really stupid mistake of mine and some scum sucking leech of a webmaster. Let today be the official do not leave your .htaccess file chmoded to something writable day. That’s what I did and I paid for it.

Dropped/Replaced from and on Google Search Results

Looks like the guy at thefirefox.net got in there and was directing traffic from the search engine crawlers from me to him. Now both Firefox Facts and the Web Hosting Show are still in Google and the others, but show up in none of the results.

I have reported these guys at thefirefox.net to Google, their web host, their domain name register and to Mozilla but have yet to hear anything about it. Looks like a web site setup to trick people into thinking they are Mozilla so they can get their hands on much AdSense click-through cash when you download it with the Google toolbar.

What action has been taken thus far? Nada. Nothing. Big Goose Egg.. but if I hear from one of them I’ll be sure to post it here and let you all know.

I have done my begging at the holy search engine alter with Google – and now I guess the wait begins to see how long I will be out of the search engine results.

Keeping Track of Shared Items

Shared Items on Google ReaderI use Google Reader’s shared items to bookmark links I like or would like to share.

It makes it a quick an easy process to output this to something the public (yes, that would be you) can enjoy. I want an easier way to view my shared items though without having to visit my web site. I’d like to put my shared items on my iGoogle web page actually.

How can I do that?

1. Login to Google Reader and click on the “Shared Items” link.

2. Grab the RSS output link that it gives you from the web page. It should be close to the top as long as you have “shared” a few things.

3. Visit the “Add Stuff” page on iGoogle and click on the link to “add by URL”

4. Paste the RSS feed you grabbed earlier into this box. Click the “Add” button.

Your done! Now it should be on your iGoogle web page and you can customize how it is displayed from there.
