Free iPhone Giveaway!

Well I would give one away if I had one. Personally, I want to thank Apple for allowing me to skip out on reading and feeds today because I can’t freaking turn around without seeing another “I’m Getting an iPhone Man!” posts today.

I’m not bitter though, instead of fighting the noise – I’ll just contribute to it. :)

Interview With Press Release Guru

Hosting RadioLast week on the Web Hosting Show I got the chance to have a sit down chat and conversation with one of the biggest press release writing firms out there today.

Talking with Dan from Press Advance was a very enlightening experience to say the least. I never realized how much work they really did for folks really. You could count me in the group of folks who said, “How hard is it to write a press release?”.

After this interview though I have to say I have a new found respect for the process and the work around it as well. That’s not all we covered though, here are some other topics talked about on this week’s podcast:

  • Some Hosting News and Gossip
  • Interview with Dan Garon from Press Advance
  • A Little ‘Bit of News on Intenet 2
  • Even Hosts Are Getting into iPhone Hype
  • Calling Out the Podcast’s Haters

Haven’t tuned in yet? What are you waiting for? I can promise you you’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you might even learn a thing or two along the way.

Resume Changes for the Mitchster

Well, last week was one heck of an interesting week for me – lot of crap going on this way and that way, but I think I’ve got my plate cleared off and ready to start over again this week. Much of what went on I don’t think I’ll make public – not because it is bad but because it just ain’t any of your business. :)

Due to me being one busy mofo – I’m going to be leaving my writing duties over at Lockergnome. I still love Lockergnome and the crew, but it’s just not something my heart is in right now and that I have the time to do. Hopefully that will leave me a little more time to spread out to other projects and other things I have been meaning to do.

So yeah, things have happened – don’t want to talk about them – so why write? Just felt like I should at least let that one tidbit of information out there to the public. Now back to your regularly scheduled Mitchness.

Contracted Worker Tips and Advice

Freelance TipsI have been a “contracted worker” for my fair share of years, since 2003 to be exact. Over that time I have figured out both the easy way and the hard way a few good tips to pass to others who might do freelance work – no matter what industry you might call home.

1. Don’t be afraid to speak up and pass your suggestions about the business you work for to the business you work for.

2. If it feels strange to you to get out of bed and get to work, then make yourself think you are going somewhere else. Get dressed, comb your hair and have some downtime before you get started. You have to get yourself in the mind that when you sit down at that computer you are in “work mode” and can not be bothered.

3. Don’t under sell yourself. If the company that hired you isn’t living up to their end of the deal or they are forgetting about you, let them know. Sometimes with freelance workers or contacted positions little things get overlooked. Don’t let it happen.

4. Want to read more about freelancing and the world around it? One cool source I just found the other day is at the Freelance Blog at FreelanceSwitch.com. Highly suggested reading if you are in the freelance business or your looking to get started.

I guess those would be my biggest ‘bits of advice for anybody wanting to “work for themselves” out there. If you know of any more good nuggets of advice, don’t be shy – pass them my way.

Free Mini Icons for Webmasters

Free Mini IconsNeed to spruce up your web site with a nicer graphical interface? Now you could hunt for an icon designer or do it yourself – but why do that work when I have something I found that you can use for free.

The Mini Pixel Icon collection is an awesome group (Over 320!) of icons that would look perfect on any web site out there today. Of course, if you wish to use – you must follow the creator’s rules:

  • You may NOT resell or distribute these icons.
  • If you use more than 10 icons on your site or software, you must post a link back to www.ndesign-studio.com. If you do not want to post a link back, please read the license information below.

Not a big price to pay, you should be giving credit where credit is due anyways. If you really want to use them link free – check out the license information. You can do so for around $30.

For the second year, I was able to get George Roberts (the guy behind the magic at HostingCon) on the Web Hosting Show for an interview.

I have been a big supporter of HostingCon since day one. I think it is an excellent event and it has quickly become the biggest event of the year for anybody who has any interest in the web hosting industry. Each year about this time I get just a little more excited because for web hosting enthuists this is almost as good as Christmas. (more…)

Tune in to episode 110 of the Web Hosting Show to hear the full interview.
