Mitch on Facebook

I’m working on a little side article and project, but I need your help! How can you help me? Add me to your list of friends on Facebook. Come on, you know you’d do it without me asking.

+ View Mitch’s Profile on Facebook! Add him because he is Mitchtastic!

I want to see it in comparison with MySpace and a few others to see which one is the better social meeting engine and which one would be better for marketing, and a lot of other things. It isn’t often that I do something this vain, so hopefully a few of you will help me out.

Backlash 2007 Predictions

Backlash 2007Well with my Wrestlemania 23 predictions I scored a six out of seven, so I thought I would give it another shot and see how good I am at predicting the winners and losers for this Sunday’s Backlash pay-per-view.

WWE Women’s Championship – Melina vs Mickie James – Not sure about this one, I think they will keep Melina the champ for a while longer though. Mickie James needs to go back to being a psycho, she’s just too generic right now.

U.S. Championship – MVP vs Chris Benoit – Chris Benoit will take the win here, don’t really watch Smackdown that much so don’t know what has been going on between them. Something about MVP just rubs me the wrong way though.

Tag Team Championship – Cade & Murdoch vs The Hardys – I am going out on a limb and saying that Cade and.. no, wait I just can’t do it. The Hardys will take the win, but I’d like to see Cade and Murdoch get a push.

World Championship – Batista vs Undertaker – The Undertaker will take the win here just because I don’t want him to drop the title yet. I say keep it on him at least till Summerslam. After that, I’d be ok with him doing something else.

ECW Championship – Shane, Vince & Umaga vs Bobby Lashley – This is another “Ehh” kind of match. Not really excited either way – but I do think Umaga will take the win, just to keep the feud going for a while longer.

WWE Championship – Randy Orton v. Edge v. Shawn Michales v. John Cena – I would like for Shawn Michales or Edge to win, but my gut says John Cena will win again and I’ll give out a big yawn in excitement over seeing that for the thousandth time.

Comment Timeout – Spam Fighter

Comment SpamI’ve been looking for a good WordPress comment to help me fight the comment and trackback spam I have been getting lately. One solution was to turn off commenting for posts that were so many days old. I like this idea – because I highly doubt somebody today is going to feel motivated to comment on something I posted two or three years ago.

With that said, I found the tool I was looking for in Comment Timeout. This wonderful plugin allows you to:

  • It lets you close comments on old entries that do not have an ongoing, active discussion.
  • It examines your spam queue and your Bad Behavior logs to let you close comments and trackbacks across the board to troublesome IP addresses.
  • It allows you to reject comments that contain too many hyperlinks, or links in BBCode format.

I have used this on the Web Hosting Show’s Web site for a few days now and have been enjoying the result. As soon as I get the time to do so, I’ll be rolling this out on all of my Web sites.

Help for Web Development

The world of Web development is one that I will never grow tired of.

There is always something to learn and something out there to learn from. Here are a collection of my articles and posts for this week’s Lockergnome Web Developers newsletter.

Do you know of something or want to see something covered that I have not tackled before? Just drop me an E-mail and let me know. I’d be more than happy to help answer a few questions for folks as well along the way if I can.

WOT – A Better Site Advisor

WOTI tried to live with SiteAdvisor as long as I could, but McAfee’s over commercialization of the free product has lead me to look for a replacement.

That is where WOT comes into the picture. WOT is another extension for Firefox that acts as a reputation checker. Once installed it leaves a tiny footprint in the browser (which you can see in the picture above) and allows for quick and easy rating of links.

WOT is a free service that provides web site reputation information for users. You can download it as a simple add-on for your browser that determines the trustworthiness of websites based on direct testimonies from the users themselves.

All in all – I like WOT a lot better than SiteAdvisor. There isn’t a huge logo slapped across my browser, and I get no click-through ads like SiteAdvisor delivers. Give it a shot for yourself, because the more users this service has – the better the experience will become.

Open Google Notebook in Firefox Sidebar

I like using Google’s Notebook feature but the extension they give you is a little lacking. I think it is too small and doesn’t allow me to open and shut it very quickly. What’s the solution? Well I took the Google personalized homepage widget for Google Notebook and added it to the sidebar of Firefox.

Google Notebook in Firefox Sidebar

This is much like the “Add Google Talk to the Firefox Sidebar” trick that was so popular a few weeks back.

  1. Create a new bookmark (right-click and select “Bookmark this link…”) for this address:

    http://www.google.com/notebook/ig?hl=__MSG_locale__

  2. Right-click on that bookmark and select “Properties”.
  3. Check the box that says, “Load this bookmark in sidebar” and you are good to go! It isn’t exactly rocket science so everybody should be able to enjoy this one.

Now you have a full note taking application to work with in your sidebar and it beats that tiny default extension Google provides you any day of the week.

Don’t miss out on any more geek candy!

Desktop Tower Defense

It has been a long time since I got totally hooked on an Online game. Just don’t play them that much. That all changed though once I finally got around to playing Desktop Tower Defense. This game is simple – yet addictive.

Desktop Tower Defense

“So of course I clicked on the link and have been “testing” the game ever since. It’s free and Flash based, and very simple. Bad guys come at you in a highly predictable way. You build defenses that take them out. If any get through, you lose a life. I’ve gotten to level 72. Can’t get past it.”TechCrunch

Play it yourself and find out what all the buzz is about.
