My Google Reader Tools and Guide has been updated again. I am going to try my best to keep it as updated as I can – or for as long as people are interested in it.

If you have any other suggestions for it, please let me know.

I have had fun collecting all these links, tips and tweaks from all around the Web – and I hope you have been enjoying checking them all out as well.

This might be the most popular topic I have covered via this Web site in a very long time. You know me though – always happy to help!

Do it Yourself Online Marketing

Here is my most recent contribution to the Lunartics Lunarpages.com blog. You should really check this place out, it is covering a lot of great topics!

Marketing is one of the things Online that just fascinates me to no end. I love watching it. I love studying it. I love putting it to practice for myself when I can. The truth of the matter is though is that a lot of people out there are either scared of it or intimidated by it. There should be nothing to fear about marketing. It is just the practice of getting yourself out there to the public.

Since there has been a lot of marketing talk here lately, I figured I would chime in. So to help those out there that might fear the practice of marketing, or who might need marketing practice I figured I would put together a do it yourself guide.

Mitch Really Hates the Cold

I hate old man winter. I am at the point right now where I would like to beat him with a steel chair over and over and over again till he runs away and Summer can come back to play.

This whole freezing ice storm crap has lasted long enough. Where is global warming when you need it? I can’t step outside my door without going through a slip and slide dance that makes me feel a little more like Little Richard and a little less like a Web hosting media rock star. I do have to say one thing though – the cold does make for some awesome photos.

I am ready for Summer to come back again.

Link Counter for Hosting Hoopla

Now you can see how many links I have gathered.

Since everything is frozen outside, I figured today would be as good of a day as any to roll out a new update to Hosting Hoopla. Today I added a link counter, so you can keep up to date with the number of links on the Web site.

It also links back to the submit page so you can always add a few more links of your own.

Hosting Hoopla Link Count

I think the next improvement I’ll make is a “Why Should I Use Hosting Hoopla?” tutorial to link to on the Web site. Thanks for everybody’s help and support thus far. Couldn’t have done it without you!

WebHostingTalk Forum Premium Membership

Would you pay $50 a year to get the “privilege” to post on some forums?

I would like to say the folks at Web Hosting Talk are pretty darn bonkers, but they have people actually paying for it. I can’t blame them because if people were willing to give me money for the same thing – I might have to do it. Do Web hosting people really have that much money to burn? People there are other Web hosting forums out there! Need a list of them?

Go check out HostingHoopla.com!

WHT Premium Membership

Come on, give me some feedback – are people really that desperate for a t-shirt or are they just not aware that there are better hosting forums out there? Is Web Hosting Talk desperate for money?

I know they have been resold on a few occasions but they seem popular – why do they need to stick it to their members without giving much more of a perk than just a free t-shirt?

I Was Rubelized!

I have been a big fan of Steve Rubel’s writing for a long time – so I was more than happy to see that he found his way to my Google Reader article that I wrote a few days ago. After he did link to me and del.icio.us put me on the front page, I noticed a boost in traffic.

Rubelized

As you can see the little bars went up – and that is a good thing. So in an effort to find something to call this wonderful surge of popularity, the best thing I could come up with was “Rubelized”.

Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? Of course my 15 minutes of popularity are probably almost over – but I promise all you regular readers you will continue to get the best my fingers have to offer every single day.

Outsourcing Your Support Needs

Is it a good thing when a Web hosting company starts to get rid of their workers in the United States to replace them with cheaper labor from overseas?

Of course not! I do have some good friends that live overseas and that are in the Web hosting world as well. Those are not the folks I am mad at. I am mad at the big hosting companies tossing perfectly good system admins out on the street and then going to these overseas sweat shops to find a replacement.

Now I don’t think this is as big of a problem as it used to be – but it is still going on. Companies outside of the USA are doing it as well. Computer companies are the worst offenders when it comes to these practices.

Hosting Support

This is the last of my Web hosting comic series for now. If you have enjoyed those that I have posted in the past and this one as well, please let me know. In other words, leave a comment man! I would love to continue if you want me to.

Working With WordPress

I enjoy installing WordPress for people. Now I will leave it up to you to decide if that is really cool or really sad. Nevertheless, it provides a neat feeling. Maybe I get a buzz from knowing that this Web site could be the next big thing. Maybe I just like helping folks out. What people do not realize though is getting up and going with a WordPress blog is not that hard at all. Once you get the hang of it, you can get yourself up and going with a great looking Web site in under an hour.

Now the first thing you are going to want to do is visit WordPress.org and download the script itself. Personally, I find downloading the .zip version works best for me – but others might like the .tar.gz version as well. Once you get that downloaded onto your computer, you need to un-compress it and decide where you are going to put it.

GoDaddy – Web Hosting For Boobs?

Now the last time I said anything bad about GoDaddy’s Web hosting I got a phone call from somebody in a suit asking me why I would say such things about them. It is kind of a scary thought – at first I thought they might try to sue me or something.

I told them my problems with their services though and they listened. After they were done listening, they pretty much told me, “Well, this is the way things are and we like it that way” or something to that effect.

Go ahead and search Google, I know I am not alone here. I do not make fun of GoDaddy’s hosting because it is funny – I do it because I love them and I want them to get better. Just think of GoDaddy as the run away stray dog and me as the sheep herder. Not like I am going to hear from ol’ Bob on top of his golden domain palace – but I know somebody in GoDaddy headquarters will see me from way down here.

Boob Parsons

Hello Bob – are you out there? If you are, make sure you check out the Web Hosting Show on your way out. You might learn a thing or two about the Web hosting business.
