Greasemonkey Scripts on Firefox Facts

firefoxlogo.jpgDue to the popularity of Greasemonkey within the Web and myself lately, I have decided to give it a little more coverage here on the Firefox Facts Web site. Along with themes, tips, extensions and links, Greasemonkey deserves a spot here because it does one thing. It makes Firefox better. So watch out for the newest Greasemonkey posts, and if you have any scripts to suggest just send them in to me.

Rose vs Calacanis – Ladder Match!

diggladder.jpgI have the solution for all the Netscape versus Digg arguing going back and forth on the Web these days. We take both Kevin Rose and Jason Calacanis and put them in a ring! Let’s toss in a ladder for good measure, and high above the ring we could put a big sack of publicity.

Watching them both battle it out in headlocks and suplexes would be a lot more entertaining than seeing the battle of the egos that we have now. This isn’t about Netscape wanting Digg’s users. This is about Jason Calacanis wanting free publicity by picking on the biggest dog in the yard. Even if he eventually looses this battle, he has already won the war. More people have checked him out and have checked out the new Netscape.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love watching a good fight. I just wish they would pick up the pace and take it to a back alley somewhere in Silicon Valley. Now that would be a pay-per-view event I could really get into.

Hostingcon 2006 Audio Interviews

Over the next few week on the Web Hosting Show, I’m going to be uploading audio interview with some of the “movers and shakers” that were at Hostingcon 2006 this year. I was sorry that I couldn’t join in on all the fun, but the folks at TopHosts.com have been nice enough to share their coverage with me.

I posted an interview with Lou Honick of HostMySite.com yesterday and this Friday I’ll be posting an interview with Ian Andrusyk of FastServers.Net. Along with the Web Hosting Show special I posted yesterday, and the new audio intros for the show, I am pretty excited here. It seems like there is a lot of interest in the Web Hosting Show again.

Ad Free Hosting Hoopla

HostingHoopla.com is now ad free! I’ll be the first to admit, my idea of creating an aggregated resource for Web hosting news and links hasn’t exactly taken off as I thought it would. I fault this mainly on the fact that the entire Web hosting industry is behind about two versions on the Web. While others look forward to Web 2.0, the hosting world is back on Web .05 Beta Release.

So go check out HostingHoopla.com and see my cheap attempt to draw in a few more eyeballs and get a few more people hooked on all the hosting information it provides.

Common English Errors

englisherrors.jpgI am far from being your perfect example of a writer. I love to write but I am a horrible speller. I don’t think that a misuse many words, but I could be wrong. Just in case, I found this interesting list of common words that often get people confused.

core/corps/corpse
Apples have cores. A corps is an organization, like the Peace Corps. A corpse is a dead body, a carcass.

You Can’t Eat Your Cake and Have it Too
The original and only sensible version of this saying is “You can’t eat your cake and have it too,” meaning that if you eat your cake you won’t have it any more. People get confused because we use the expression “have some cake” to mean “eat some cake,” and they therefore misunderstand what “have” means in this expression.

breath/breathe
When you need to breathe, you take a breath. “Breathe” is the verb, “breath” the noun.

Frankenstein
“Frankenstein” is the name of the scientist who creates the monster in Mary Shelley’s novel. The monster itself has no name, but is referred to popularly as “Frankenstein’s monster.”

Search Engine Optimization

SE-Inspectors is a nice tool for those of you who want to go out and see how “search engine ready” your Web site is. It checks your meta tags, text, URL, link popularity, and keyword density. I just ran a few of my own domains through it, and it looks like I am pretty ready for any search engine to crawl my Web sites at any given moment. How ready are you?

Add Mirrors to Digg.com

diggmirrors.gifAs many of us do, I get tired of finding a story on Digg, get excited about reading it, and then finding out the Web page has already gone down due to traffic. Every so often, via the comments on Digg you can find mirror links, but I am tired of waiting.

That is why I plugged the Digg – add mirrors script into my Greasemonkey extension for Firefox. It adds a nice small box of mirrors to the side of the link on Digg. From here, if a link is down, I can still get to the content.

TechTV Comeback!

techtv.jpgI was reading what Chris had to say about wanting TechTV to make a comeback and be rebuilt by the community. I don’t think there is a problem with content creation. Lots of ex-TechTV talents have gone off to do wonderful things Online. The problem comes in when you try to aggregate all this data in together. We need a place (official or unofficial) that would dump all this content into one place for folks to check out. TWIT.tv does a good job at this, but it isn’t everything.
