Dear Netscape - Pay Me All You Want!

netscape.jpgSo Jason Calacanis of the new Netscape actually wants to pay folks for finding stories. I say good for him. People need to make money, and as somebody who earns a living off of what he makes from the Internet, I like seeing this type of system work. I don’t know one person who could honestly say he would turn down money for just sitting around and finding links on the Web. Eric Rice has it right.

Now where I see a problem to this idea of stealing away the top Digg users is that I don’t go to Digg to go see what top poster number one through five is posting. I go to Digg because I want to see what is on Digg. Five guys leave, five guys come in to take their places. I think if Netscape really wants to win, they are going to have to take a look at Digg and do whatever Digg isn’t able to do right now. Don’t steal ideas, make ideas.

So to sum things up, getting paid is good. Stealing “talent” and ideas? Well, that one seems a little sleazy.

It might be too little to late. The site doesn’t appear to have any traffic at all.

Yeah, I don’t think it is going to do well at all. If anything it will just be tossed into the pile of other Digg clones out there today.
