I thought I would try out the new Windows Media Player 11 to see what it was like. I have to say, overall it looks very nice. The only thing that bugs me about this and all the other Vista applications is the “classic” menu. Are you guys just trying to make the interface look as ugly as possible with it turned on? I have a feeling in the post Vista days there will be hundreds of freeware applications coming into play to fix what Microsoft messed up here.

Want to buy a blog? Although there isn’t much there yet, this will be one service to keep an eye on. I’ve known inside the Web hosting world for Web sites to go for $500 to even $1000 without much content. Some folks just make it a hobby to buy up Web sites.

Not really sure who is ready to buy Final Words - a suicide victim’s last stop, but hey there is a market for everybody out there, right?

I e-mailed this to as many Tucows and Blogware folks I could find. Hopefully I can get somebody’s attention!
I just have a few little things to bring up this time. I mean, come on guy! I am now one of your most popular bloggers… give me a little! Top Blogware blogger used to be Chris, before he got tired of messing with it and moved to WordPress.
Problem #1: I Can’t Change My Profile Photo! Never have been able to, might not ever be able to.
Problem #2: Name one person who has ever used the templates for the music, book or movie reviews. Right now they are just taking up space in my administration panel.
Problem #3: Keywords! Why can’t I have a keyword that is more than one stinking word. If I wanted to use my name as a keyword, I’d have to put either Mitch or Keeler (because MitchKeeler looks strange). Why can’t I just put quotation marks around multiple word keywords like everyone else?
Problem #4: Let me rename the main category. Maybe I don’t like it being called “Main Page”? Maybe I want to call it Betty?
Problem #5: The layouts are WAY too table heavy. Bandwidth could probably be cut in half if more CSS was used for the styles. While we are on the topic of styles, we need more choices. Some of the choices we have look like somebody threw up on some HTML and said, “Hey… that looks nice!”
Problem #6: Why do I have to have some of my pages with a trailing /blog on them and some of them without it? This makes for bad search engine optimization. let’s ditch the /blog after my domain.
Problem #7: Let me edit my RSS feed a little more. Why do I need to? For that problem, see problem #6.
Problem #8: Don’t play content king with OUR content. (Need an example? See Chris’s problem getting the rest of his content off of Blogware’s servers.)
Problem #9: Give us some REAL updates. I have been using Blogware since 2004. When was the last new memorable feature added? There hasn’t. Give me a new tool to play with or a new feature to show off. When was the official Blogware blog updated last? January! Even you folks don’t seem too excited about using it.
Problem #10: I know why I don’t get too many comments on my articles and posts. It looks too damn confusing down there. I wouldn’t want to leave me a comment either.
Now Blogware this isn’t to make you feel bad or mad. I am just one user that wants a better experience with your system. Please let me know you are at least working on some of these and I’ll be happy.

Man, HostingCon 2006 sounds like it is going to be a blast this year. Really wish I was able to make it!
FastServers.Net announced today it will be hosting a full production game show called Trivia Challenge Plus at HostingCon 2006 in Las Vegas. The game show will allow 6 contestants at a time to go head to head answering both technical and trivia style questions. HostingCon 2006 which takes place July 17, 18, and 19th will feature 23 shows live on the conference floor.
Maybe I can get a few folks from HostingCon 2006 to show up and talk about it on the Web Hosting Show again this year. My interview with George Roberts (the guy running things there) is still one of my most highest downloaded episodes.

Now I am going to show you what I get to clear out several times a day:

Imagine seeing a list like that (about five times that size) when you wake up in the morning. If this stuff is being flagged as spam, then why am I still seeing it? Don’t think that blocking them will do you any good either.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Blogware has major problems when it comes to trackback spam.

Are Web Hosting going the way of dinosaurs? If that is the case, I am staying far away from the tar pits! I don’t think Web hosting folks have too much to worry about. Why? There will always be somebody too lazy to do this work themselves - so they will need a Web host to step in and take control.
This change is paramount. Computer users today are finding themselves with very fast permanent home-connections, as well as powerful server systems hidden behind fancy icons. They are realizing that there is no point in paying a hosting company to have a web site: they can just run their own.
The IP address changes? That’s not a problem: there’s dynamic DNS, free of charge, that comes to rescue. Everybody is becoming “a bit of a system administrator”, where their computer hosts their web sites, their photo album, or their music. Quite a few issues still remain, especially for security or problem solving when something “goes wrong”. However, none of these problems are really new: how many spam zombies run happily in client-only, Windows machines? How many times do client machines crash?
I have to say though, this is pretty interesting to think about.
