Web Hosting Information

Due to my podcasting vacation, there is no Web Hosting Show podcast this week ready to go. Don’t worry though, I figured I would still take a look at last week’s news and let you know my thoughts right here.

“Singapore Web hosting provider 8 to Infinity announced on Monday it has upgraded its dedicated hosting plans, more than tripling disk space from 80GB to 200GB and doubling the RAM per server.”

Every time I hear about a Web hosting company outside of the US, it always seems like it is in Singapore? Maybe this one Web host just has a really good PR person.

According to reports from Pakistan released Wednesday, a petition submitted to the country’s Supreme Court asked the government to prohibit the broadcasting of controversial cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad, described by the petition as ‘blasphemous.’ Among the respondents named in the petition are Web hosts Yahoo! USA and 1&1 Internet, as well 1&1’s chairman Andreas Gauger.”

This is stupid. While we are at it, let’s stop doodles of Jesus, Buddha, and the Flying Spaghetti Monster as well.

“Internet research organization Netcraft reported last week that Web hosting provider Go Daddy had surpassed 1&1 Internet as the world’s largest Web host, it’s January gain of 255,000 hostnames bringing it to 5,544,296 in total, about 95,000 more than 1&1 according to Netcraft’s Hosting Provider Switching Analysis.”

Go Daddy is number one? So how long is it going to take before they do something stupid, and somebody starts calling them evil?
