Blogware Screws Up (Part 2)

Well I found that somebody a little higher up at Blogware as commented on this issue over at Chris’s blog.

Hi Chris, Kim Phelan, product manager from Blogware here.

I’d love to tell you all that we have a new system that blocks trackbacks, but…we had a human adding to the trackback list over the holidays to get rid of a large number of bad trackbacks and they were overzealous.

We are conducting some cleanups at this point to make sure that blogware hosted blogs are not blocked (I suspect it will be sorted in the next day or so), but if you notice any please notify your retailer and we will make sure it gets rectified. Sorry for the confusion :( . My mantra today is “the road to hell is paved by good intentions”

As for the new trackback system, that is due in February, and details will be shared through documentation and release notes. It won’t be shocking or inaccurate like our humans…

Now knowing that, I have a few more questions than I have answers. I was told this by the Blogware support person I’ve been in contact with during this entire problem.

The blocking lists are system wide (all of Blogware). I have also asked for an investigation as to why these sites have been blocked. I’ve been told that they accept complaints from Blogware resellers and then confirm them prior to listing, however I am questioning the procedure due to these recent blocks.

Now if I had notified my retailer (Lockergnome.net aka Chris Pirillo himself) he wouldn’t have known anything more about the problem that I did. I had to E-mail Blogware’s support team directly to get an answer and a fix to the problem. What we need is a public list of the Web sites that are being blocked, so we can make sure we are not on it. We need a public list to see if people we know are on it. What is the purpose in not telling us who you are blocking? What if somebody gets “blocking happy” again without “confirming” before blocking?

There are still a lot more questions here than answers.
