Mitch’s Favorite Programs

From time to time, folks ask me what programs do I use most often and why? “What is on my desktop is staying on my desktop!” I would often cry out, as they ran screaming raged in the other direction. Then one day I thought to myself, “Why not share your ideas and opinions on your favorite programs?”. All of the sudden, the coffee began to surge through me and I realized I really needed to go to the bathroom.

These are the powerful programs I picked before taking a potty break.

UltraEdit-32

Thanks goes to the man known as Bob for suggesting UltraEdit-32 for me to use when writing my contributions to Lockergnome. This small text editor really does all I need it to do to get things ready to be posted Online. Most often I use it to keep from “special character” usages from getting in the way of my RSS feeds. Honestly though, I don’t need much. I just like to have a program that does what I need it to do.

SmartFTP

I picked up on using this program after working at my previous Web hosting job over a year ago. It is honestly the best FTP program that I know of, and I am more than happy to pay for it. With a few flicks of the old mouse, I can upload files on the fly! Once again, you got to love a program that does what it needs to do, and does it well.

FeedDemon

I searched for a long time to find a good RSS reader. After going back and forth with a few different programs, I was about ready to tap out and call it a day. That was until I graced my hazel green eyes across FeedDemon. Created by the folks who also do TopStyle, FeedDemon is the prettiest damn RSS reader I have ever found. Everything is right there in front of my face and I do not need to read a manual to figure out how to use it. Just plug in a few feeds, and away you go!

Webcam32

Mr. Lockergnome himself, Chris, suggested this one to me when I was looking for a way to upload my web cam pictures to the Lockergnome Web site. It is a little scary at first, but once I got used to it I can upload a fresh web cam picture for all to enjoy.

Firefox

Firefox really is the next generation browser, and if you haven’t gotten it yet… what is wrong with you?! Chances are if you are reading this though you have probably heard about all the great things Firefox can offer you. My favorite thus far has to be the extensions and themes. There really is no limit to what Firefox can do.

Have a program that does a better job than these? Comment and let me know!
